IBM messed up with they started trying to overhaul SoftLayer. SL needed to grow up, but IBM engineers and in fighting at Big Blue screwed up the opportunity SL brought to the table
IBM cloud has been a day late and a dollar short. This repost of its internal history is nothing short of an incompetent management team who has grown comfortable with their own incompetence.

The current hybrid strategy resembles a service bureau from the late 60’s or early 70’s vs something customers are demanding out of IBM. The lack of innovation is obvious. The current strategy does nothing more than farm the free cash flow while giving lip service to legacy customers to justify their legacy strategy. If you want change, it’s time to demand the IBM board be replaced. Ask yourself who on the current board is viewed as an industry innovation expert? Demand innovation not same ole same ole
"Hybrid Cloud" is IBM-speak for old legacy software running on RH OCP on a mainframe on-prem.
Problem with IBM (Ginni famous for this) they pick up a few buzz words like cloud and throw it out there. Then they let the top performers , higher salary workers go. They will always be 2 steps behind till the board goes outside IBM to get a CEO who knows how to run a company put focus on where technology is today and be at tomorrow and keep the top performers, bring in knowledgeable people from outside then maybe they will move up.
IBM swung and wiffed
After three beautiful perfect pitches went by, strike three was called, and the other team was already at the bar celebrating - that's when IBM swung at the first pitch.
Linux sux
What a shame where IBM stands in cloud after spending $30B+ for red hat. As a long term IBMer, am very concerned of the viability as a company. Ginni and her board of directors should have been sued by the stockholders for negligence. Aravind not much better, other than spinning off Kendryl.
I am certainly not an expert, but every company that I work with is multi-cloud. Too many vendors/applications that they have to connect with as well as customers. Internally, the same.
Zzzzzz
IBM could supply AI that helps passengers figure out what goes best on pizza.
or call the coroner when Tesla's AI ki--s someone else.
Makes you wonder what IBM will do next. Make electric cars with Tesla? IBM could supply AI that helps passengers figure out what goes best on pizza.
Just imagine how much damage to the economy we'll have when one of these 3 huge cloud systems crashes. Having many of our eggs in a few baskets seems like a really good idea.
Sort of like planting the same corn everywhere - if a disease shows up you are in big trouble.
My concern has nothing to do with IBM. Its this consolidation of a huge number of customers into these huge monolithic systems.
Imagine Amazon services selling IBM cloud!
This is how broken IBM is, when we don’t even believe in our own product.
I was laid off from Hybrid Cloud a few years back. I guess I should stop hoping they’ll rehire me. Sigh…
Arvind Krishna screwed up the cloud opportunity (along with ex-CEO, Ginni Rometty) - a potential blockbuster mega billion dollar opportunity for IBM. IBM should have been one of the big three Cloud players. This is one of the biggest screwups in business history. Now they have nothing and are trying to create a new market called Hybrid Cloud to hide the fact that IBM Cloud is a nothingburger. Hybrid Cloud is BS. Arvind Krishna is now CEO despite his ineptness. This is the new IBM. Sc--w things up and get promoted and rewarded This Cloud transition was a once in a lifetime massive business opportunity and IBM swung and wiffed.
Better start packing, folks. A funnel cloud has been spotted.
IBM calls being a paying customer to AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud "Going Hybrid". Or, to put it another way "We've given up on running our own cloud."
So much for betting the company on "Cloud," huh?
Oh, I'm sorry, it's HYBRID Cloud. bfd.
