As if working hard and always being available will do them any good. It's like they only started working at T yesterday. Hard work only brings more misery - more work, more responsibilities, more expectations of availability... Why would anybody do this to themselves voluntarily? If you're smart, do what you have to, pick up your paycheck, and head home to spend time with your family or friends.

No, not everyone can do it, just the ones who haven't gotten screwed over by T, yet.

I did get health care beni's. Still do.
37 years as an outside tech.
Turned down 3 promotion offers.
Had I accepted, I'd still be working for 4 more years.
But I never had a title or a name plate or a desk.
I noticed the retiree that claims everyone can do it but notice listed received health care benefits... Medical is still the number one cause of bankruptcy but AT&T chose to f**k over people who had counted on it but either weren't ready to retire or didn't meet the rules yet.

Very likely successfully retired. I've seen coworkers do it at 55, I plan to do the same. Sorry you need be medicare eligible before you can quit work.

You are wrong. T's failure is causing this mentality. No reason to do extra for a company that doesn't care, will sc--w you over and will throw you out! If T wants to change this mentality they need to start being a better employer with fairness, consideration, honesty and integrity

It did. 37 years in. Retired at 55. Health care, pension, 401k.
That was 6 years ago.
Split my time between my house in the woods and my 80 acres in the boonies.
Took care of customers, but realized it was a job.
A place to make $$$.
And I did.

What the OP said is totally true. I've worked hard all my career and for that I was roughly at the midpoint of my salary band. Always in the top two review levels.
Last year we got notice that our pay band was going to increase due to some competitive survey (no we did not get a raise at that point to correct it) and now I'm barely above the low end of the range.
You can say my work got me self-satisfaction if you want, but it also created aggravation given those who didn't work as hard are now all making the same amount and does create a feeling of "what was the point?"

Well, it's not an attitude that should be prevalent among your employees if you hope to be successful.
That said, poor strategic vision and flawed execution are what has caused the demise. And that's not the fault of the guy that made this post.
Well , OP, it’s called having pride in yourself and pride in a job well done. Not everyone has pride or self-respect. Personally, I like to go home to my family and friends in a good mood and feeling good about myself knowing I made a small difference in someone’s life whether it be a customer ,or a co-worker. What’s the point of life if you are just a taker and you don’t care about anyone or anything but yourself and you don’t give anything back? Maybe for you , you feel good just taking taking taking. Me , I like to serve in both big ways and small. I served my country for many years in the navy earning peanuts. I did my time. Now, I’m blessed with a decent wage and I like to feel I’m earning it. But that’s just me.
