This RTO deal is making me sick. I work with people on the east coast and people in India. They keep setting up 5am calls and my boss is riding me to be in the office 3 days a week. I'm like it take me 1.5 hours to reach the office. I go in and the light aren't even on. Once it hits 9am only about 6 people on a floor that holds 60 show up. There's no one i even have anything to do with in this. I don't know what to do. I have bills to pay. But on the other hand i have enough savings to quit and look for something else, i wish they would just let people get a package. When you have to get up at 3-4am for a job it starts to melt my mind. I hate working here now with all these over the top demands.

Work is so much easier now than it has ever, ever, ever been.
You need to set boundaries. Block off time in your calendar when you are not WFH or in-office. Then block out 1.5hours a week 2x per week for exercise. Also take 10minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the afternoon for you to stretch, breath deeply, pray, meditate, or calmly relax and think of creative ways to help your family, your community, your team, and yourself.

You should negotiate your hours to be aligned with the demands... If 5 am meetings are going to be a thing, then tell you boss , you are willing to go out of your comfort zone to switch hours... but they need to keep the continues hours per day to be reasonable. NORMAL work would be then take a meeting from the office at 5 am BUT, you leave for the day at 2 pm. and YOU DON"T WORK AGAIN until 5 am the next day.

It isn't a demand, unless that is specific to your job description. If your 8-5, then your 8-5. I don't think your boss is telling you to be on at 3-4 am. You seem to be making that implication.

I agree with the poster below me. You have to and I mean have to set boundaries with Wells. Block off the time you are out of office otherwise your whole calendar is open. Those before or after hours meetings should be reserved for emergencies

@1rrd+1gzKXjTs - absolutely not. WF doesn't think WFH is a viable option, I don't work from home when I'm scheduled for the office. If you haven't already done so, set your availability in Outlook. Even better, set up recurring meetings that start from your end of day until the next morning when you start. Block your time to your availability. Don't make this easy for WF. They want India and they want RTO, live by their rules, but make sure you don't give up your life and health for it.
You could take the meeting at home and then go into work later
Your managers/leaders suck. No way in he-l I’d do meetings at 5 am to appease the India time zone people. Goes to show you how little you are valued. Find another job and tell your boss and the India peeps who will run this bank into the ground to go suck it because this stupid place is not worth risking your health.
My boss hosted a small recurring meeting that was expanded to include more participants with one in India. I volunteered that I’d be fine starting at 7 am as long as it was one one of my two WFH days. That was fine until a couple weeks ago, when lo and behold, his admin changed it to 7 am on one of my regular in-office days. I pushed back since, by that point, I’d settled into a nice routine of arriving at 7:30 the same three days each week. They updated it to start at 7:30 on the new day. I leave 15 minutes earlier on that day so I’m not late since I take public transit. Not perfect but it beats having to leave 45 minutes earlier. Lesson: push back!!
I usually start at five, but lately meetings gonthen3:30. My co-workers start much later and 2 work til 5. I’m an early bird-always have been even as a child. I only live 10 from office with no traffic. Since we are all PDT. (CA/AZ) I cover east coast.
I am on the west coast and in the same boat. Some days I start between 6-7 when I’m working from home, but I will not even consider a meeting at 3 or 4 a.m. regardless if I am home. Everyone else here is right… decline and tell them to move it to something that suits everyone. I take my early calls at home and head in when I can. I would highly recommend talking to HR if your manager is requiring you to be in the office at that hour. Beyond ridiculous.
have a spine decline the meetings. tell your boss you'll be in the office from 8-5 and block out your calendar the rest. I decline anything before 8 unless absolutely necessary. my India team works until 10am PST
It’s unacceptable but not unusual . The only way out is likely to leave (transfer internally or a new job).
If the India staff is fully dedicated to Wells, and interacting frequently with US staff, I’d think they’d at least partially align their working hours with US business hours. My husband and I live on the west coast and your situation sounds a lot like his. Because not everyone’s schedules are aligned, plus he’s working with folks in foreign countries in addition to India, he’ll typically start his day at 6 am or earlier. The difference is, he works for a company that actually cares about its employees. He started his job six months before lockdown and has never been required to go into the office. He’s also nearly always done by 2 pm. If you’re forced to show up at 5 am, I sure hope you’re out the door by 1:30 or 2. Still ridiculous hours though.

I hate RTO and am in the process of accepting an external offer solely for that reason. That being said, you should feel empowered to decline a meeting at that time. I manage a team and regardless of whether they’re at home or the office would never expect them to accept and attend a meeting that far outside of their time zone. If you let people take advantage of you here, they will. Hold people accountable for their own BS and send a prompt decline.
You are nuts to find a 5am meeting acceptable. Schedule on for 4pm your time and turn the tables.
Do not show up to work until 8 am. It is simple do your hours and tell your boss to figure it out. RTO means 8 in the office. That is it
