But as the debate rages on about what the future of work looks like, not least in terms of the balance between remote working and the push by many legislators and business leaders to get the workforce back into offices, Chevron is in listening mode it appears. Morris says:

"We survey our employees very frequently, about once a quarter, and a lot of the feedback is, 'We want more flexibility'. Most of our employees are on a three day in the office, two days remote schedule - and they're asking us a bit for a bit more. We have some groups that have two days in the office and three days at home. It's based really on what type of work the person is doing, how much collaboration and engagement is required for a specific role.

What we've learned is to address the fairness question. We really have to engage in a new and different reality. If you say to me, 'I want more flexibility', I need to understand what does that mean? [Someone] might want to take his kids to school and work early in the morning, take his kids to school and then come to the office and work from nine to two. So we're still we're still figuring this out. We're still working with our leaders to give them the skills to deal with probably one of the greatest areas they've ever had to deal with."

@1mho yeah, right. Everyone claims to put in more hours working from home. Such BS. Who would admit otherwise? That’s why company surveys about WFH are lame. Everyone answers how they are more productive blah blah blah just to help support WFH. How many people would actually claim otherwise?

Hybrid schedule allows us to better balance work/life. I put in longer hours while at home as I save 2 hours day commuting. I would rather focus on doing a good job for those extra 2 hours day than sit in traffic. I suspect that is why we have done well the past 2 years of COVID-19.

California has fresh, non-greasy and tasty Mexican food. The equivalent in Texas is typically twice the size and covered under a gallon of velveeta.

Never believed people who WFH claim they put in more hours. Some will say putting in at least 40 hours is irrelevant as long as they get the job done. I say if that’s the case, they need more work and Chevron needs less people to do the work! Have had experience with and witnessed so many lazy, entitled people it’s pathetic. Continues to happen because the leaders are many times guilty themselves. Easy money which is why so many people don’t leave when it’s way past their time to so.

As to the California experiment (@1ecw+1h0ZzCSd), this is an interesting take.

Be a California based employee, so WFH/Remote and not necessarily having to commute as much vs a Texas based employee where more office/hybrid may be required.

What do you value more? Less commute, less fuel purchases, etc vs lower COL, taxes, etc.

Then again, the ongoing employee survey results are a lack of COL adjustments for CA based employees. Thus, this gives company an out, saying you can move to Texas and yet not having to increase salary of area. Basically putting it back on the employee to make the decision of what is more important.

It is sort of a California experiment. People will have the option to work from home if they do not want to move to Texas to boost their finances.

Chevron announced last week that they are selling Chevron Park so that should speak to their WFM stance. Clearly, the ent be laying ee’s off after one of the largest layoffs in Chevron history two years ago.
