Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I do not intend to wait for severance

The rumors about cuts are circulating and I don't know how big they could get, but it's clear to me that things are getting ugly here. I am already very serious about looking for a new job because I do not intend to wait for them to show me the door. My opinion is that severance pay is not worth the stress a job seeker goes through when they don’t have a job. Those who do not intend to miss severance are obviously sure that they can find a great new job very soon?

I will "retire" if selected. Enjoy the summer then look for something completely different than my current job.

Waiting for severance might not be worth your while. If you don't have significant seniority the payout may not be worth the long and particularly stressful wait. The 2022 job market is still pulling but some wallstreet big guys say we're headed for a recession (due to end of quantitative easing). So you could argue that "no action is worse than inaction" and just hop off the Ford train and start building your future - keeping in mind to remain flexible in your wants. And if you don't like any of what i just said... then stay and wait it out lol.

Waiting for a severance is normally only practicable when the person is retirement eligible. If you're not happy at Ford, look for a new job and leave on your schedule.

Here are the facts. I turned back in 2 company management lease vehicles ( 1 was an incremental lease) right away during my departture, another 2 personal family leases ended in 2019 and I never asked any extended family members to quit buying Ford but they all turned in their 4 vehicles when their leases expired and leased other brands. They did not feel Ford was ethical having the director and all the LL4s in my former organization remap themselves to each other (LL4s were reporting to other LL4s) in order to save themselves and then take it out on the rest of the senior LL5, LL6, and GSR employees in the organization. One neighbor turned back in their x-plan pin # as well after they heard what happened. Not bragging but just stating the facts.....Good luck. Hopefully your organizations are better than the one I used to be in. There are good organizations and people at Ford but after key leaders retired and were replaced with poor LL4 managers the organization I was a part of started to go in the wrong direction. The good news is that is all behind me and life is good now! I hope everything goes good for you as well.

That's the other thing that Ford forgets about! When they layoff an employee they just ensured that said employee and family are now all customers of competitors! My entirely extended family drives Ford products. If I get laid off that will change overnight.

Your family, extended family, and relatives replaced every one of their vehicles in 3 years? Every single vehicle? Either you have a tiny family or you are full of cr-p.

I was impacted by SRD in 2019. I had over 20 years seniority so I got the 9 month severance. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to find a new job (and this was before the covid labor market grew). It was a 4 week process (1 week to update resume, post for jobs on Indeed, Zip Recruiter, Career Builder, Glassdoor, Linkedin, Monsters, etc.) 2 weeks to interview, and 4th week had 2 offers). I am SO MUCH HAPPIER not working for Ford and it was a blessing in disguise. Wait for the severance and at least get something out of it if you are impacted. I felt the same way you did in 2019 but it turned out to be a lot easier and faster to get a new job than what I expected. My whole career was at Ford and I failed to realize how much better companies there are out there. My family and extended family and relatives no longer drive a Ford product which is another blessing in disguise.

Some of us will retire if "shown the door", but agree that others with less years may want to at least start looking.
