Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Career Goals

I noticed for our weekly meeting that our manager wanted all of us to check out that career goals profile and emphasized that if we wanted to pursue other options we should. I’ve never heard this as a group, the only time my manager talked about it was during the training process (new employee). Do you think this is a sign that there may be changes to our department?

I've been with the company for 10 years. This is something in the employee survey each year about whether your manager has discussed your career goals. Some leadership are sticklers about setting goals so you'll hear more about it in different areas. Not saying it's an impending layoff, but I've had managers after me over the years to always fill out my info and have career goals. If your manager isn't focused on your career goals and encouraging you to keep progressing in the company you need a new position and manager.

I have been with UHC for several years and never had this sent to me nor discussed until last week. Then after that was emailed out, we were told that our department is being done away with but they will help us find an opening within the company....if there is one. So buckle up buttercup.

I would say if the manager flat out said it's ok to look for other opportunities that they are warning you of an impending layoff. Doing your group a favor to get a head start on moving on

No. It’s probably to prepare for the survey. One of the questions is about “Did your manager have a conversation with you about career progression?”

Yes. They do this when layoffs are coming
