Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Moving up at BNYM

I agree with someone who wrote that there are many of us who have been here for a long time without moving up in the organization.
I am one of them and the reason is not that I am not trying to move up, but despite all my efforts so far I haven't been able to.
Do you really think there are employees who are not moving up just because they don’t feel like it?

Just because Charlie left does not mean all of his cronies, er, colleagues are gone too.

I m not willing to move up. I am comfortable in my job, no stress, 35 hours a week and it pays the bill, my life is not my job.

Why do people always think you need to "move up" in an organization? Why not just be better at what you do in the trenches? Does every NBA player have to strive to be a coach?

10 years with the bank. Minimal pay increase. Moved on to a different company with significant pay increase of 25K. Would have taken me another 10 years with the bank if I stayed just to make what my new salary is now. First step update your resume, next step apply and keep applying to jobs. Make the effort, take the initiative and do it!!! This is the year to get the offer you want.

There are employees that like being stuck in a rut and complain.

The people who moved up are in one of these categories: 1. Mediocre players, with skills in making the manager look or feel good. 2. Empty can-doers with a"Yes" to those above, and "No" to all those below them. 3. Men dragged up with apron strings tied to someone two or three levels above them who they frequently hang out after work with. 4. Female poster quotas. 5. Skilled people who leave.

If you've tried everything then it's time to move on. Stop giving this place your everything for little in return.
