No internal job postings

The reason that we do not have any internal job postings is so that the company can easily promote those who they wish to be leaders and stall the careers of those they don’t. I’d have for the chosen ones to have to interview against is peasants!

Will never happen. People with power to change it all benefited enormously from existing system. None would ever admit they were promoted into positions they were never qualified to fill to begin with....nor their achievements (or rather lack thereof) assessed competitively against their peers. Further, how can you quickly achieve the desired diversity targets of the management (I won't say leadership) class if the outcome were left to the results of a competitive process where advancement was based on slow and deliberate skill development process? It's not a meritocracy based on equal opportunity.....it's a deliberate outcome.

Why do I have to fill out my career history in CC to be considered for a job that should be part of my growth and development plan, that I didn't apply for, with no information on the selection criteria and also what information is excluded from consideration?

“No internal job postings”

A company that is trying get employees to quit probably isn’t going post new opportunities for them.

What amazes me about these posts is the extent to which Exxon, by no means the most skilled player of the Corporate Game, is able to continually outmaneuver and blind-side their employees. Clearly, many of you have never worked anywhere else.

We are now judged on “impact” and not our work.

I saw this in past rank meetings and here is how that really works.

Sponsored individual tanks in new job-this is fault of EM or his supervisor for not providing sufficient challenge for that Sponsored person.

Bottom quintile person performs exactly the same, maybe better, “the employee did not put forth that SPECIAL effort required to distinguish from others”.

Outcome is that Sponsored person remains top quintile and bottom person remains bottom quintile, even though same “Impact”

Not having internal job postings is fundamental to the the corrupt EM system. Remember that now, very officially, we are not ranked based on our work but on its IMPACT, which of course is completely role-dependent. Highly sponsored parasites will automatically land “high-impact” jobs that will justify their ascension. Meanwhile, expandable regular people will get “low-impact” roles that will keep them down in the ranking, where they were meant to be.
Internal job postings (if the jobs were truly assigned based on qualifications) would simply short circuit the cozy, corrupt system through which nobodies with sponsors can claim that they do great “work” and “deserve” to move up.
This is absolutely contrary to basic company interests and one can only hope that at some point the board will take a deep look at this nasty, self-serving system.

Internal job postings provide transparency.

I was chosen for a role that others would love to have. Even though I did ok, I hated the work. In another case, a completely unqualified person was tapped to fill a role. She was doomed to fail.
