Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I'm starting to despise this company

While some will say they are happy with their pay at Verizon, in my case pay doesn't match the amount of pressure and stress my job entails. The amount of stress is unbearable, and micromanagement is its main cause. I believe that I am not the only one who started to despise this company and look for a new job precisely because of micromanagement? No other company I've worked for before has had so much micromanagement as this one here.

Starting to?? Join the club, most of us started to despise it around 2012 when Lowell McAdam got in and destroyed it, from there, it has continued to go downhill. The word despise is an understatement.

If you feel that way you should leave. Also the commenter that left 5 years ago. Why are you still checking this board. Find a better manager. There are great ones at Vz. Or leave. Why complain and be miserable

I had a similar experience many years ago when I worked for an absolute lunatic ! He was harassing women constantly and had one of them as a girlfriend on the side. He constantly played video games on his computer and if you interrupted him in the middle of playing he would rant like a psychopath ! Multiple people reported him to security and HR . Nothing happened. I had enough and saw another position in engineering opened up locally so I called this manager about the position. He knew who I was and was surprised I would leave what I was doing. After the interview he offered me the position and I agreed . I told him not to tell my existing manager and that I would do it myself. Well guess what this POS called my manager and told him he would like to hire me . The next thing I know my manager calls me in and starts yelling at me . I got up and walked right up to him and told if he ever raised his voice to me again I would beat the SHT out of him. I told him he was a psychopath and a womanizer and if he tried anything I was going to security and if threatened to a district attorney . I never had so much as a peep out of that b@$ta-d until he took a riff three years later.

I left 5 years ago after 30 years . Last 20 of my career was full of horrible narcissistic managers ( oxymoron in Verizon) The better you were the more cr-p you got because of the jealousy they had for anybody that was more highly thought of ! It's a skumb pit of ineptitude glorified at the expense of good people !

Never been a better time to get a different job. Don't waste your prime years with a poor manager.

Just do the bare minimum and get paid until they toss you. Don't take what your boss says to heart or you will go insane. This place is a joke and most know it. Most workers don't care anymore, I'm one of them with over 25 years here. I yes my boss to death and then do wtf I want. My work is done but I don't waste anymore time than 40 hours. The days of working 60+ hours a week are long gone. Am I bitter, no. I made a good buck here as we all do. But don't stress over this place. They don't care about you so why should u care. Keep milking them for the pay and the 401k match. Don't leave unless something better comes, wait to get rif'd. Walk out and don't look back. This company will be bought out sooner or later.

There are many that despise the company, but are hanging on as long as possible. I worked in multiple positions during my 28 years at VZ. Never worked less than 55 hours per week, but enjoyed the first 25 years. As mentioned in a previous comment, your worst manager is somewhere and that was me during my last 3 years. He made each person speak about where they grew up and the percentage of diverse friends they had from grade school through college. Told him where and how I grew up is none of anybody's business and only should be viewed as how I treat others. I had what I asked the HR Rep to be a confidential conversation, he agreed to the confidentiality and agreed with my viewpoint, but immediately informed my manager. Remember, HR is not there to assist the employee, but to keep VZ from getting sued. HR will pat you on the back and agree while cutting your throat. My manager treated me like a high school outcast and I knew he would find a way to get rid of me. Even though every year I was rated as overperforming. He would not even speak to me after HR informed him of our discussion. Fortunately the voluntary packages were announced, so decided to take a voluntary package and get the hel* out. My manager did not speak to me during my last 4 months. My last day I left at 2:00. A few hours later I receive a text that he did not understand why I left without saying anything and to take care.

I realized that I would not find a job making the same salary as VZ, since a lot of my salary was based on years of service. I never realized the toxic environment at VZ until I left. Other companies value your opinion and the lower salary is well worth keeping my sanity and not leaving work each day pis*ed off. I was always accustomed to providing solutions for profitable results. The last couple of years there were no large B2B profitable deals. In prior years VZ would walk away from unprofitable B2B deals, but the new way of thinking was no one wanted to explain to executives why a deal with 5,000 wireless corporate phones was lost.

Update your resume and casually look until a rif or buyout comes along. Depending upon your background, the salary at another company may be lower, but well worth being rid of the misery.

It was such a good company to work for and turned into a joke. Best of luck to everyone.

Have an emergency fund and be ready to walk away.

If you're not happy and unable to influence the change you need to enjoy the job, start preparing for the next step.

Look at going back to school.

Set aside 3 months of expenses so you can job hunt without stress.

Do something physical to challenge yourself each day even if it's a walk to get your mind off it.

It sucks that you're under so much pressure right now but you can def get away and find something better if intentional.

The problem with VZ is it is so vast everyones worst manager is somewhere. My manager is basically an absentee manager who I have to chase down to get answers and probably hasnt read any email or task list update for years.
