Considering Positions in Controls, IRM, and Audit

I’m thinking of applying for a few positions in these areas. Which is the least dysfunctional? Appreciate thoughts

Those are all enormous areas- corp risk is over 8,000 alone. You’d have to be much more specific on the job reporting lines for anyone to give insights.

All have their pitfalls . Audit you’ll have zero work life balance but it looks better on your resume. You’ll be able to get promoted faster.

IRM is cool for work life balance but nobody knows what they are doing there at all. Working for managers that are clueless gets frustrating.

Control is sort of pointless? Ask 5 people what they do in control and you’ll get 5 answers . With that being said, I’d go control short term but audit if you’re looking to build a career

Why don't you just consider getting the he-l out? LOL!

@1eyr+1h8eiD6W that's the 100% truth and story of my time here.

OP and others looking don't fall for the BS they feed you in these interviews. I should have realized during onboarding (or lack there of) that this was going to be a disaster.

To consider positions in any of these areas would be setting yourself up for a tremendous amount of dissatisfaction in your work life.
It's almost a certainty that your manager will not know how to train you, nor will your peers, and you will be constantly unsure as to what is expected of you and why your were hired in the first place.

I would not advise joining independent risk management either as it's headed down the toilet. So many people have left and are leaving that those who are still here are taking on the work left behind and can barely keep up with what they already have to do. Recruiters are having a hard time getting candidates because the majority want 100% remote.

I would not recommend it. Controls and Audit are in chaos and as frustrating as Controls and Audit is for other departments/orgs, it is a whole other level of frustration inside those departments.

Control is a dangerous place now . IRM and audit are even worse . Try a front line function. Please

No clue what IRM is, so go with that option.

You might want to check on that reorg memo from SP last week about the Controls teams.

Idk about the other areas but look at this board and your question answers itself.

Great they're hiring in more overhead. Can wait to fill out all the forms you create with the thousand and one boxes to fill out. Working at a bank today is a nightmare.

Unfortunately it's all the same everywhere the best thing you can do is align yourself to a boss that will support you. Good luck finding that!
