Giving Notice @ Merrill

I currently work in a client facing position and accepted a position with another firm. When I put in my two weeks, will I be required to work the two weeks or will I be asked to leave immediately because I am a risk?

They made me work mine. Then again I told them I was retiring

More professional to deliver the notice in-person. However, you run risk that they will call security and make you do a humiliating perp walk in front of your colleagues. Schedule a phone call with your boss and deliver the notice electronically. Keep it short and professional. Give 2 weeks availability to answer client questions or help transition. Deliver laptop, keys promptly. HR will never call you and they don't do exit interviews anymore. Be professional, even though the company isn't. Bad managers will still try to smear your reputation, spread rumors, make false claims about you when you leave. It's just the nature of management here. Don't let it bother you. Sleaze is sleaze. Move on.

They will ask you to leave.. unless they need you, then they’ll make an exception and ask you to stay. I know someone who was told to leave, then called back the next day and asked if they would be willing to come back & finish their two weeks. Needless to say they declined the invitation.

You're leaving, why do you even care? Just give your notice. They'll probably ask you to leave right away since you are client-facing.

And if they don't, what's it matter?

I'd go right away - or slack off big time - unless they threatened to garnish my remaining 2 weeks pay.

Here is something interesting. I am the only person I know who they made work the 2 weeks, everyone else they always sent them packing. So I guess if they're obsessed with you they'll make you finish your 2 weeks.

I’ve seen people who did attempt to work the two weeks but were asked to leave before the two weeks were up.

If you’re going to a competitor you were supposed to leave immediately. However, I know many managers that will pretend like they do not know that you are going to competitor so that they can have you continue working for the remaining two weeks.

Was in a similar position. I was asked to not fulfill my two weeks. They did pay me for them though.

They will ask you to leave. You pose a risk of the company secrets.
