I heard through the grapevine that apparently we will need to use our personal devices for this and won't be using fobs. Who can shed light on what this entails? Does it require an app to be installed on our phones?

I recently found out someone who was laid off from my team last year wouldn’t sign the release and is suing my boss! The boss is terrible and now that people on the team know we’re wondering what the person is suing them over.
Considering that company laptops are cr-p and tech support is even worse, I can't wait for VDI. I'm sure they will find a way to sc--w it up also, but at least there is some hope.
NOTHING work related goes on my personal phone, took off all the blueberry connect stuff back when I filed a lawsuit against the firm and moved into Quietly Quitting mode, all going that extra step to help the firm did for me was scruw me over so they get their 8 hours and none of my personal life, that includes my phone. I gave up the hard token years ago and use soft on their POS laptop that I've had since 2017 and they refuse to update but fill up every day with massive software updates that keep crashing Outlook etc.

Soft token is the way to go. It’s just an RSA app on your phone. If you have anything newer than an iPhone 6, you can use the APP. Just set the APP to no tracking on the iphone.
It’s a counter effect to the id--t employees at this company that forget their hard token or let their token expire. Then they have to call the technology desk for a temporary code. This clogs up the line. The other id--ts are the ones that let their password expire.
The people with true technology issues cannot get through due to long wait times. In some business lines, your RSA token is also used for applications, not just for remoting in.
Hence the initiative. I was resistant at first because I never forgot my token ever but soft token on phone is the way to go. You can put on computer but if the machine breaks, there goes your chance to use a spare computer because your token is stuck on the broken machine.
That’s a firm wide initiative. Our group did it months ago
The soft token is a third party vendor app that I already had on my phone from a previous place of employment. Hard tokens are SO outdated. I had one 17 years ago when I worked at a legacy Wells firm. The RSA app is NOT Wells having access to your phone - which I would vehemently decline.
So it sounds like soft tokens possibly may no longer be installed on company-supplied hardware. Who here is concerned about installing Wells software on their personal phones? What permissions might it require? What rights do we have to sign away to install it? What if the phone is confiscated as part of some lawsuit?
Remember, our phones are where we have mics, cameras, photos, and texts. And just because some app says it won't access those doesn't mean it won't happen. All it would take is a rogue WF tech or a hack.
Question for those on VDI:
I’ve had my VDI for 2 years now. The camera is still disabled. I am in the office. Help desk tells me camera is disabled due to bandwidth since video signal has to travel from my home via VPN ( if I was at home) to Wells’ network to VDI host location to that proxy server then Zoom.
Since my Skype voice call is also choppy on VDI regardless if I’m in the office or not, I kind of believe the bandwidth limitations story.

In the virtual desktop pilot now. In a Q&A session this week, the moderators were confused as to which tokens can be used, hard vs. Soft. I figured was the end of work computer. Why else pilot this?
@1kuf As you said, 1lkk is right. I know of this effort. What I don’t get is why you think it’ll take forever. I have already switched to BYOD and a cloud based desktop that is not really on my laptop. They did not provide me with a tower and instead I have the box you referenced which connects me to the network with my cloud based desktop (virtual desktop). I even have a soft phone with no phone at my desk. Sounds to me like the only missing step is to repo my laptop and tell me to F myself if I don’t like it just like they did with my phone. Maybe 2032 is next year at the latest??
@1lkk They've been piloting this for like a decade. It continues to be a disaster and they have not found a way to make it viable. This is years off, if they ever figure it out.
Soft tokens are preferred and you are definitely pushed toward them, but hard tokens are still available.
However, anyone who is still using a hard token is an id--t. It's inconvenient, especially when it comes time to replace it.
Contrary to what is said below, you can still get a soft token to your work desktop, you don't need it on your personal device.
Soft tokens have been the push for quite a while. You can still get hard tokens with management approval. Your AU gets charged extra for it.
Down vote my post but laptops are going away for most employees.
In office at each desk will be small box hooked up to the network. You will log in to a virtual desktop.
At home, you will use your personal computer or tablet to connect to a virtual desktop.
It will save a good chunk of money in support and hardware life cycle management. No need for techs to set up tens of thousands of laptops anymore. No need for shipment of laptops, no need for handling returns.
Your management will size how much compute and storage resources your team needs. If there is an issue, they can just delete your virtual desktop image and recreate it from scratch in minutes.
It is in a pilot program now.
So enjoy your laptop now. It may be your last before you have to provide your own for when you are working at home.
Partially right. They are trying to get rid of all hard tokens and soft tokens on laptops. The plan is only soft tokens on your phone.
This si a very shady and exploitive method is work. I'd say many privacy and even biometric laws are broken unless you give explicit consent for them to make you do this and track your evey move and behavior.
The push to do this with the so called Machine Learning that tracks people and IP addresses and I do isl behaviors is getting pathetic.
Big picture matters
I had a soft token on my corporate-issued mobile phone until a recent decision to push everyone to BYOD. And that would be fine if not for the fact that my personal Android, which is not old, isn't on the list of approved BYOD devices.
So of course that left me scrambling to get a hard token, which arrived a day before service ended on my Wells phone.
Ther person is wrong about not being able to order a soft token for your pc, edr has it right there on the site.
Pretty soon no one will have work laptops. You'll be using your own personal computer to access the corporate network.
I was offered a soft token or hard token when I got my laptop years ago. I opted for the soft. I've never had to use my phone. Just set it up once and good to go.
They are no longer doing soft tokens to laptops. Must use your phone. If you have one, don’t get a new laptop :)

Can get soft token on your computer as well, not required to use mobile device.
Yes it’s an app you install on your phone that will give you a code to use to login. Easier than the hard token since I’ll guess you never lose your phone. It’s just one less piece of equipment the company needs to manage.
Soft times is a much better experience. This is the last change you should worry or complain about.
