Stupid is as stupid does. More Dilbert.
I once got my review from some manager who didn't even know what my name was. But this guy was the one who was "reviewing" me...?
If some manager is going to tell me that I'm doing a bad job, the least they could do is know what my name is...
I'm curious, Biz Excellence Auto Finance guy, if your manager doesn't know what you do, how do you feel about your performance reviews? I had the same issue - my "manager" never really heard/saw me working because I was on a scrum team and she wasn't on it with me. My 2-up and 3-up NEVER EVER saw or heard me performing any work yet they insisted (because they were spineless a$$holes following Scharfs plan) on giving me poor year end performance ratings resulting in my loss of most of my bonus. After that I quit.
They pulled this cr@p at another company I worked for. Then they took it a step further and made everyone re-apply for their existing jobs.
When I re-applied for my own job, I also took the opportunity to apply for jobs at other companies, since I had just polished my resume. As did a lot of other people there.
I got 4 offers, including one from my then-current employer for my existing job. Problem was that the other 3 offers from the other companies were all BETTER offers.
I quit that company and accepted one of the other offers. As did a lot of people.
If there's such a thing as Darwin Awards for management stupidity, that company would have won. It was a bloodbath, and a lot of good people left for better jobs.
I could never justify my job. I do maybe 10 hours of pointless work a week.
Such a time honored tradition, justifying what one's team or group does/should be doing to the point that losing anyone is unthinkable and come to think of it, we need even more bodies!
that's not job rationalization, that's literally work prioritization as attrition is high and sometimes there's work that could be paused to allow for higher priority efforts to be done by employees.

Welcome to what IT's been doing for years.
I’m in Business Excellence over in Auto Finance. We have to keep track of what we do daily now and justify the positions they hired us for on the regular. I’m always like “You hired me. You should know what I do?” Strangely, my management never knows how to answer that. I think they’re still trying to figure out what they do. 🤷🏻
