Thread regarding Ford layoffs

EV investment

Ford invested billions in EV, but the sales numbers does not justify. At this rate, Ford electrification will be in bankruptcy soon.

If you look at the sales data, Ford can barely sell 30,000 Mach E per year and Ford can barely make 100 F150 Lightning a day. The 2 assembly plants are losing billions each year.

Ford EV SALES per year = Tesla EV sales in 1 month.

JF and his team are trying to create sales by diversity and inclusion, contributing to low income communities, telling the employees to take care of their customers. Wake up, JF. No one wants to buy poor quality products.

@xua+1hBy2KLL Everyone would include the revenue from data, software and subscriptions, if we knew. JF cannot open his mouth without mentioning data mining or subscription, even promising that would be a large portion of Ford revenue, but he never provides current numbers. I wonder why we declared the investment in Rivian, but we cannot declare how much money the "future of the company" is producing presently. Maybe because that number is actually minus 1 billion dollars (based on the Mobility expenses)?

It isn't about making money, it is about Bill trying ride Elon's coattails and look like he too wants to save the planet. Fact is, Bill is ready to seek this nearly 120 year-old company in the name of woke politics. Making money was for WCF, Edsel, and Henry. Today Bill doesn't care about money (because he has plenty) so he wants to be seen as a liberal beacon of light to the earth, and to the downtrodden. Investors, you better pay attention!!

"Did you include revenue from data, software, and subscriptions?"

Why would he include that? Are we selling gaming consoles now?

You can run a data company without selling EV's entirely. Software upgrades are artificial "demand". You don't actually need upgrades if you are short on money and all you need is to just drive. Unless you need updates (not upgrades) in which case your software sucked to begin with. And who wants subscriptions? Just another driver of operational cost and the only reason subscriptions exist is because Ford decided they would like to earn money that way.

@xua
How much do YOU spend today on data, software, and subscriptions related to your vehicle? I know I spend ZERO, and have no intention of changing that.

Agree. Scratch the surface and it is revealed that the plan is only gold plated.
Ford is not going to be selling software and subscriptions for other manufactures vehicles. Ford is not going to be selling software and subscriptions for vehicles presently on the road (older model cars)
Ford would only sell software and subscriptions to a subset of purchaser’s of new Ford vehicles. That pool of potential purchasers continues to decline. Current trajectory has it at 7% of all vehicles sold within a few short years.
Simple economics will erode sales of “luxury”-priced transportation, in favor of safe-reliable-affordable transportation. It is a mystery why Ford execs think working class Americans would prefer an AV vehicle / ride sharing EV as opposed to private ownership of something like a Honda Civic (or good public transportation). Yeah I’ve listened to all the we are going to change the world speeches dating back to Prof Moonbeam’s city of the future. Let’s keep in mind that Detroit had great public transportation until the big 3 systematically dismantled it, after all they needed customers. Now compare present day Chicago to Detroit. One still has great public transportation and is thriving, the other well is not fairing well. But hey the train station will be hosting posh weddings in 5 years, so we are good. Maybe Ford can put a free large fleet of AV in Detroit to serve as free public transport and drive the Detroit residents to suburban grocery stores and back, or drive them to jobs. The train station can be the AV depot.

I disagree. Did you include revenue from data, software, and subscriptions? Or just sales of EV vehicles?

Your numbers assessment will look more favorable if you consider all company revenue streams and how favorable they project into the future of mobility.
