Health Benefit Transition Debacle

ExxonMobil terminated my health benefits with Aetna prematurely while I was still an employee and paying for medical insurance. This leaves me with an insurance gap. Until then , I cannot seek healthcare until COBRA kicks in or able to hitch to spouse's insurance. Health Benefits Services is of no help.

Please share your experience with health benefits services and COBRA. Does health coverage end the last day of work, 30 days after last day, or until other forms of insurance kicks in?

I can't speak about when an employer is allowed to end benefits, but there is a grace period allowed "in-between" to join COBRA-based insurance. In other words, COBRA payments and activation can be backdated to the date when your benefits ended. But once you start and end COBRA, then it's gone. When I left 2+ years ago, Wage Works was the administrator of EM's COBRA plans.
