Baffled on people staying in a boiling pot

I have been reading all these posts and it is baffling why people stay in a boiling pot. Is it that the Ford culture erodes self confidence and self reliance? Is it willful blindness? Is it entitlement after decades of receiving corporate welfare?

One guy posted that he was stressing over what % of people would be cut because he thought 2 people on his team were worse performers than him, but 7 people on his team were better performers than him. Unless the guy was a new hire, you have to wonder why he would be in the bottom quartile of his team for most of his career and not taken actions to improve his skills.
But then again it is the everyone-gets-a-trophy culture aka everyone-gets-the-same-raise culture.

I do get that people fool themselves. One guy on our team would tell everyone what a hard worker he was because he spent time on the weekends doing work. But this same guy spent the entirety of every workday visiting and gossiping with coworkers, causing an decrease in productivity. He never understood why he was passed from group to group by managers when he was such a hard worker.

They need someone who is a simple thinker, who doesn't express so many ideas, who is a good worker drone and who is not attempting to lead.

People stay in a boiling pot for a number of reasons, they think the devil they know is better than the devil they don’t, the spot they’re in isn’t so bad or is easy money, or maybe they’re waiting to retire. In addition Ford has a reputation for hiring exceptional talent and turning them into mediocre employees by promoting them and giving them work that isn’t marketable. Once promoted you spend most of your time producing PowerPoint decks and chasing Ford specific metrics. And it doesn’t seem as easy to find a job right now as the “news” would suggest. I have a dear friend who was laid off in December and still hasn’t found a job. They have excellent experience and three degrees but the interviews they have landed haven’t resulted in an offer. In each case they’re told they are “over qualified”.

That's also because Michigan doesn't have good opportunities. Let's face it, that state is broke and broken. The people are nice. But if in MI you're working for an OEM, you're at the top. Where else to go from here without moving somewhere completely else? If you're done at the OEM you might have to move all the way to Texas lol.

If you're lucky, at F you may have a reasonable financial outcome compared to your workload but as the other post has shown, there are people having to deal with significant exhaustion. It depends where you ended up.

If you get multiple months payout when laid off depends how long you where at Ford. For that to be really worth it though you'd have to have been there for 10 years min.

I was going to start looking, then heard the rumblings of layoffs. I'd rather get paid to look for work so I am waiting. If I survive, I will leave. Already did some research, Ford pays squat compared to other places. Just want that several months of severance then I am out!

Where else can you earn six figure salary for maybe 15 hours of actual work per week??

Put up with some BS and make a nice living!

"Well, we’ve been told by our CEO that we don’t have the right talent…"

It depends - If you are in an ok spot and making good $$ then you can just try to do a good job and chill until the company finally folds, collect a bit of unemployment, then move on to something better. If you hate your job and it's not worth the time/stress factor or the $$ then by all means find something better. It's really an individual perception. Some people are sick of 'starting over' all the time too once you get to a certain age . . . I have a job at Ford and it's not so bad. I should count my blessings. I will 'go down with the ship' I suppose. I'm in Model e group so let's see how long I can hold out . . .
