Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Unfair treatment

Is it even a good idea to report unfair treatment in the workplace to HR? Or am I just going to end up with a huge target on my back?

HR is there to protect the company, not you. They're not an internal union, no matter how much they pretend to be. While you SHOULD be able to report this stuff to them, the truth is, if you do it will just cause trouble and potentially get you fired. It'd be better to find a new job somewhere else.

It is worth going to HR. It worked out very well for me. Make sure you have written documentation such as emails, entrap them if you can. The bank is more scared of the agencies like EEOC then anything else. HR definitely helped me out and as a bonus I can't be easily fired now because I could spin it as retaliation so I can do the absolute bare minimum now

If you do ever go to HR, don’t go with a bunch of hearsay, you will need documented proof of things

Agree. Huge target on you. They will make things miserable for you until you leave.

HR covers management. They are not paid to care about employees. Only Management and the Company.

Unless you have personally made friends with an HR rep, do not go to them.

That said, I cultivate personal relationships with the few "nice" HR reps, do them many favors and then call it in. Has worked very well to get me out from under a bad leader to a better opportunity.

I've had people go to HR on me more than once. First time it was "don't say that again." Second time the person who tried getting me in trouble it backfired on them. All of management had my back and not hers. They actually made themselves look really super bad and then had to face everyone at work who knew all about it. Karma is a you know what. Just get out of that place is the best option. Trust me!

HR is like your insurance company, only go to them if it’s really worth it

May as well light a cigarette, tie in a blind fold and get in front of a firing squad. Even as a manager of managers I can tell you that HR is not helpful.

I've always wondered the very same thing. When I've complained over my manager's abusive behaviour, I've just been told to "talk to her", as if it was an actual solution. No one wants to take responsibility for these situations.
