Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The point that changed my perspective...

Was back in 2020 when EM immediately laid off my coworker who had just come back from cancer treatment. I always knew it was transactional, but that for sure drove it home.

What were you expecting from such an immoral company?

In July '20, my immediate SPV was required to take a survey of his peeps to see who would be willing to come back to on-site office work at end of the Summer.
I can almost quote verbatim:

  • Me: I'm not sure, X-X. Think you know my wife just completed her last chemo series in March.
  • Boss: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm going to mark you down as a 'No'. Thanks. Bye.

I'm still handcuffed here, unfortunately.
Boss got promoted.

Good to always read that some have moved on, on their own.

Sorry for your loss.
I can say my treatment during a parents cancer was very unsupportive. I didn't milk it and used a lot of vacation. But they wanted to shorten by bereavement days. I had to go to HR about that. It was a new supervisor. Unbelievable

XOM piped me off the same year my brother passed away unexpectedly. I kept the company updated on the situation, and my needs, physically, emotionally, and mentally. We are a very close family so it was extremely taxing on all of us. I'm now a very big advocate of steering people away from this company. In my new position I get the opportunity to work with engineering students for mentoring and interview preparation. On several occasions, when the company comes into the conversation, I've introduced this board to them and have shared my own experiences very candidly. My hope is that I've been able to expose enough reality for them to make the right decision for themselves. After roughly a decade with the company, what it has turned into is now unrecognizable.

Are you still an active employee?

Sorry that happened to your co worker. Hope that person is doing well.
