Care about quality

It surprises me that someone still cares about the quality of deliverables. Why do you still worry about it? I understand, these are probably people who love their work and are perfectionists, but does EM still deserve anyone to care about this company, when it seems that even those at the top don't do so anymore?

As a long-term technical person, I do not think quality matters anymore. Currently dealing with a team where a high-flyer was told that his work was incorrect and needed to be made right. Instead of doing the work and making it right, he went to his DH and complained that I was being "difficult" to work with. Frankly, I was pretty light on the guy and was aware he was connected. Latest assessment came out and they specifically dropped me because of that interaction. Fantastic.

Do yourself a favor, if it is not going to cause a safety issue, just let it go. Smile, say "you're doing such great work kool-aid kid" and move along.

The company has shown thru outsourcing that quality is not the goal.

There was a time I was conscientious and was rewarded and praised for my quality of work. That changed a few years ago.

I soon realized no one cared. I was told to pretty much ignore policy and “just get the job done.” I spent more time cleaning up messes and trying to work with needless time sucks because management didn’t care if things were done right the first time.

Now, if numbers don’t match up, I just let it slide. If someone is trashing data that should be evaluated before destruction, I just bite my tongue and let them throw it away. If I need someone to do their job before I can do my part and they don’t do it, I just let it go. I don’t follow up or ask them for updates, or anything. I just don’t do my part.

There was a time, I’d let management know any issues we encountered, but they didn’t really seem to care. Now, if they ever ask me about anything, I just say I’ll look into it. 90% of the time, they never follow up.

Things are falling apart and no one in upper management seems to give a damn. This does not bode well for the company.

Well, there's always quantity.
Commoditize yourself and all will be OK.

The only quality I care about is my chicken curry.

I personally gave up on my standards just as you suggested before leaving the company but the thing is even then my worst work was higher quality than the "excellent" koolaid-drunk colleagues who got rotated to my team again and again. Some people are just worthless and they thrived in XOM for decades.

Amazing OP! EXACTLY the conclusion I've come to! Why bother when nobody has the feintest interest in quality?

It's amazing how much spare time you can generate when there's no interest in delivering a technically correct solution!

The best quality of work comes from the BTCs. They are very dedicated.
