Does PIP start when communication of rank is made, or does it start in Sept when communications are due to be complete?

I've already accepted my PiL and will be one of the 'garden' for 90 days.
Turn in my laptop next Monday.
Keep it secret, but I start with my next employer Sept. 1.
I know I could have dragged out the 'decision period' for 2 weeks, but I have plans.
Number of days to de ide does NOT vary by manager, it varies by how old you are. Young people get 1 week, 35 years old) gets 3 weeks
The PIL starts once you decide to take it. You can have anywhere from 0-20 something days to decide. It varies by manager how long you have.

You get a candygram from TG with the good news. She spells out you have option of PIP, PIL or a box of Belgium chocolates. Definitely, pick the chocolates and everything will work out.
First, one gets deemed “NSI” and this is communicated to you at the one-on-one with your supervisor. They then present you with two choices: PIP or PIL. Paperwork spelling out each option and agreement papers to sign are given to you. You have up to one week to decide. The three months of PIP or PIL starts the day after you sign the agreement.
It’s a layoff disguised as an employee performance issue. Clear enough?
If you were suggested to try the PIP, your boss would lay out the information once law draws it up. Then you have x amount of days to decide your next step.
