Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Who here goes to work every day intending to WIN?

I’m in a job where my bonus is directly linked to sales production, and I show up everyday motivated to win business. It’s pretty fun.

Who else has this mentality where you’re excited and motivated for the work day, and what do you do?

I’m a branch Premier Banker.

@fmx here, in the context that @1ema provided I've been winning for about a decade now.

Wish it felt like it financially.

Spoken like someone who has no idea what they’re talking about, or just doesn’t care about candor.

You’re right that you have to provide value adds… but you have to be motivated to do so and motivated to meet people. Can’t just sit back, relax and expect to add a bunch of value.

Ignore this post. OP needs to pump themselves up on the daily to get into this mindset. It’s the old way of perceiving sales.

The most successful sales people don’t say stuff like this and are able to provide value adds.

As a VP, I can follow this logic. It’s not always WINning against another person. You can WIN by completing tasks on your list, closing out that Jira request, etc. A bunch of small WINs add up to larger ones. Stay motivated, and keep making this firm great!

LOL! OP here, that was pretty funny.

And you’re right, I am quite confident that if Charlie found out who I was and read my post he would want me gone. For some reason? To he-l with what my numbers or performance looks like. I swear every single layoff decision is pure random distribution.

"A real team? What high and mighty team do you work for? How many sales or how much revenue have you brought in? These are the people helping pay for your salary and you cut them down"?

Yes, a real team. One that isn't in Retail as that seems to where your opinions are coming from. There are other areas that are non-revenue producing that make commissions pale in comparison.
I love my retail buddies.

I’m in tech, and we all know that we support those in customer facing roles as well as the digital platforms that drive revenue. I used to have an attitude like yours but poorly implemented systems (SN) and broken, manual processes have made getting a ‘win’ literally impossible. We are not meeting our objectives because it feels like every aspect of our organization has crippling flaws and burnt out skeleton crews trying to keep it all running. Many of our best have left or been forced out. We definitely need change and modernization but the m.o. now is lay people off/eliminate tools or processes before we even have a replacement for the function. It’s frustrating and demoralizing on a daily basis. Imagine starting every day knowing you will accomplish little and your leadership doesn’t have the first d@_n clue how to fix it.

OP,
I don't share your optimism and there are alot of folks in the bank that don't either. We work different worlds. You get immediate compensation for your sales efforts. We get nada, bupkus, ziltch. I can save the bank $$$ by bringing projects in on time, if not then it's $$$ to the bank. I work to support you, no doubt about it. But that is all. People I work with and depend on are leaving including their manager. Like the other poster said, shared success awards are all we get. No "win"s just the auto-generated "atta boy's". Pathetic.
I would love to have you in our organization. You would be gone in 6 months.

I get "shared success" rewards for my wins. Not motivated anymore.

No. No one can articulate what a "win" is for my job. There is no way to measure my "wins". I am not compensated for a "win".

Super good point about the more immediate payoff. Also hence why I haven’t done as well in non sales producing roles. I haven’t been as motivated in that type of job.

OP here. Interesting seeing the chat below - kudos to those who basically said that wanting to work hard and be successful is not a bad thing.

To the rest of the posters: I’m telling you, you’d have a happier life if you tried this.

@fmx
That's how businesses work, you have a product that meets a need and you try and sell it. People make the error of thinking they know what's best for the other guy and what they so called need.

Wanting to WIN is important in a sales role if you want to be successful. However, most roles don't have the immediate payoff that sales does.

Yes, the most productive people in society are those who talk people into buying things they don't need. Everyone else is their support staff.

Sales is the main goal of any business. Every other position at in the organization is meant to support those sales.

I'm motivated and excited when I WFH, I'm discouraged and insulted when I'm forced to drive to a building to call people and do Skype.

Well good for you. I hope you make tons of $$$ jerking the public on sales. The rest of us in this S show don't share your rosy outlook. Join a real team and see how life really is here.

not sales, though that might be fun but my bonus is directly related to my performance and i love my job. I’m in CIB and everyday is a challenge and everyday i get to work with great people, great clients, and i get to learn something new all the time.
