Current employee in consulting
Want to share messages I received from my top leadership today (July 26) which is already in effect for Q3:

  • Hiring freezes (no new employees and possible offers being rescinded)
  • Contractors being reconsidered for contracts (I.e., fired)
  • Potentially Chiefs of Staff roles to be cut (may not impact chiefs of staff for general managers only)
  • No travel unless absolutely necessary client related travel (large flagship conferences allowed)

So when there is a hiring freeze, the answer should be simple. Dont perform the work that is absolutely necessary or must have. Upper Management wants us to prioritize, which means only do the work who cries out LOUD or LOUDEST... This is what the upper management expect us to work, i.e. prioritize only that is most important, all other work should or will not be performed.

Our team was in the process of interviewing candidates in India to fill the role of a US teammate that left. We were informed about a week ago that a hiring freeze was put in place. So it’s affecting India as well. Or at least a US based team from hiring in India.

@vgd - Seriously. Get rid of them. My experience with most Managers at IBM has been that they have delusions of grandeur, are entitled, lazy, and about as useful as teats on a boar hog!
