Profits will be thrown away as quick as possible with stock buybacks.
EM leadership wants to keep available cash low enough so that next downturn EM will need to borrow money and justify a layoff.
One would think this would translate into decent raises for everyone, but…….
To be followed by a windfall tax and gov scrutiny we have not seen since the Valdez. So short-term, yes.
I can't wait to see the management back slapping at the painful meetings we have after the earnings call. So exciting!

Perhaps this is a short term win that shouldn’t be boasted about? Perhaps the next oil bust is right around the corner? Perhaps there’s a reason why the company plans to continue cutting headcount? Perhaps your head will be on the block eventually, too?
