I was one of the almost 600 that were let go in April. I got the call from my CAD manager who had never talked to me in the many years that I was with the CAD group. A manager who had no idea who I was or what I did. These are the people that need to be let go, not the dedicated CAD guys that I had the privilege of working with. I can only hope that Ryan Hazel gets the boot along with other managers that do not have a clue on what is going on.

When it comes to CAD at Ford
- those that can do
- those that can't lead
- those that don't have a clue manage
only people who worked at Ford understand how bad and careless management is.
It was disturbing when the “manager” explained why certain people were selected. Many people set IM to out of the office for blocks of time to keep the time-wasters and other parasites from disturbing them while they concentrate on work.
I was also a CAD guy in powertrain working on new program exhaust systems. Got reorg in January told don't worry we got work for another 2 years. April rolls around let go.
Some CAD designers are UAW at Ford they are in Body.
I should have joined. I would still have a job.
Dont use names, mods will nuke the thread. Read rules in the footer.
Depends on the CAD worker. Under RH's regime that department devolved out of doing true design work. There are, or were, still a lot of talented folk left who are damn good designers, and hard workers.
No CAD is not unionized. They are also not creative artists. They are just doing grunt work of making changes on engineering drawings. I agree they are overpaid.
Is this CAD activity unionized?
Well, CAD guys I imagine are like automotive artists where creative success is a requirement. There ya go. An LL5 should understand how his own departments work and also compare with other OEMs maybe.
On the other hand, I imagine he was tasked to let go a number of people. And how do you decide that? That's very difficult to do. Nor does he have any power significant enough to push back on such a demand.
It appears he chose whom to let go based on what he believed people were doing and based on what your status of your Instant Messenger was. LL5's rarely ever know what the individual workers struggles are and what they are exactly doing at a given time. And you use an unreliable Instant Messenger to determine whom to terminate. It also appears unpaid overtime was a requirement for workers not to get let go.
Maybe better it is over now at this sh-t place?
I’m sorry that you were let go. You’ll land on your feet and in a years time will be happier.
I saw the post “explaining” why some were selected to be released. If there are employees who had long term behavior or performance problems that indicates a management issue more than an employee issue. Leaders are expected to address these issues. If the employee is unwilling to adjust releasing them is the final step. If 25% of Ford employees have issues we have a serious leadership issue.
May I make a suggestion? It’s best not to use peoples names here. Most people on this board are respectful and decent but there are random posts that seem to come from people who are angry/bitter at best and unstable at worst. It’s OK, and sometimes deserved, to dislike someone but we still don’t want them to be targets for the unstable ones.
As much as I find this thread funny, do not post names other than the big shots. You have to remember that these “leaders” are a byproduct of a broken system. A real company would ensure that these people never get into leadership, however not the case at FoMoCo.
