Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

RTO is dead topic

Return to the Office is NEVER going to happen. Soon the management will declare a FULL REMOTE option, so that employees can settle down at their own/chosen locations.

@ 2gmt+1hZzLJlu, RTO is most definitely NOT a stated expectation of my job, nor of most WF employees’ jobs. Sure, if you’re a teller, you need to be in XYZ branch to deal with customers in person. But for a huge proportion of our workforce, their jobs can be done from any location. Sure, for some, there may be a “collaboration” benefit if they’re co-located with colleagues, but for many of us on geographically dispersed teams, that’s not the case.

Look, I’m an adult in a leadership role and many decades into my career. If Charlie wants to add RTO to my performance expectations, then there’d better be a solid business rationale to back it up. That’s the case with all of my actual performance expectations.

Heard from a young college student - “I won’t accept a job without full time remote.”

So no cheap talent at this company that is not offshore, the very definition of remote. 😂

"They can’t make RTO attendance part of our annual review if it is not part of our stated objectives set at the beginning of the year, can they ? Asking an HR person"

they absolutely can. it's part of the "how" you do your job, and it's part of meeting the objective about company values/expectations. that's how it will be handled. yet another reason to push your rating down...

RTO has nothing to do with "returning to an office". It has EVERYTHING to do with creating a situation where management can see that their employees are uncomfortable and are suffering.

The need to see discomfort in others who are under your control is an actual psychological trait that people with the personality types that gravitate to management have.

Sure they can. It’s a stated expectation of the job, not a business goal/objective. That’s like saying that they can’t ding your performance if you only work 2 days a week.

I don’t like or agree with RTO any more than anyone else here. I hate it. But until I have a job somewhere else, I have to suck it up, pay for parking, and go in 3 days a week if I want to stay in good standing.

you owe yourus empire company nothing. The concept of "employee stealing the time" comes from the boomer concept that when you "employ" someone you "own them" for the day so it's literal treason if the employee isn't fully dedicated to you, his "rightful owner".
Yes this is valid even for contractors, when you do contract work you have to show that you are fully dedicated to their company or project or whatever or they throw a tantrum

"Nope, sorry. This will be part of year end performance: those who don’t comply will see their bonuses slashed or cut. By next year, people will fall in line."

maybe yes, maybe no.

some of us got pretty pathetic bonuses, so the tradeoff is acceptable.

Irony:

Moving all your technology offsite to the cloud but requiring all your employees to come on-site to work on it.

I completed the required training on Violence in the workplace last week. And it occurred to me that every single one of those scenarios disappears when we are working from home! No scary coworkers. No sheltering in place during a storm. No bo-b threats or domestic violence spilling into the workplace. Seems like a pretty compelling case for WFH to me!

Sick and tired of rto. I'll go in 2 days a week instead or however many days I want. I'm tired of being the goody two shoes following the rules while others aren't doing it, which is good for them. They don't get in trouble, why should I? F rto

You know this how? Or is this just your opinion? If it's opinion, we'll have to keep on dreaming.

I have been asking for my overseas India tech team members to be on site for our daily stand up as required by agile...
For some reason none of them ever attend...but we have to...

That would be smart - but our C-Suite is not that progressive, engaged, considerate, aggressive, flexible, intelligent, open- minded, skilled, motivated, reasonable, realistic, creative, enlightened, democratic, positive, competent, responsible, informed, sensible, resourceful, forward-thinking, effective, authentic, high-performing, influential, knowledgeable, level-headed, capable, intuitive, trusting, resilient, practical, aware, able to see the big picture, solution-oriented, observant, credible, bold….

I wouldn’t say the topic is dead, but I would say that it has stalled out. Leadership can’t figure out how to get people to comply. In some teams 40-50% of people are coming in 0 times a week. Only 25% are coming in 3 days a week. What to do?? Managers are sending out emails, cajoling, pleading and threatening, yet people still refuse to come in.
I predict that this stalemate will continue for months. And we will see if any action is taken during year end reviews. If people aren’t fired or bonuses aren’t cut due to non-compliance, they can expect the numbers to worsen.

Never say never. When rates need to go through the roof to bring down inflation unemployment will rise and employees bargaining power will vanish. The liberals screwed everyone by incentivizing the population to become unproductive losers.
