Medical accommodations to Work from home.

Curious if anyone has recently submitted a medical accommodations request to WFH, and if so, how did you feel about the process/procedure and how long did it take to get approved or declined?

Process was easy. Consult with your doctor to ensure they support your accommodation as they will need to fill out a form. Process at a high-level:

  1. Submit an accommodation (Note: You’ll be able to WFH until there’s a decision)
  2. HR will reach out, understand your accommodation. They will ask for your doctor to write a letter on their letterhead explaining why you should be WFH (fastest way) or the medical division (don’t recall the specific org) will reach out to you, provide you with a form, doctor fills it out, sends it to that org who will then contact Hr.
  3. If you go with the fastest option, you’d email the letter you got from your doctor to HR.
  4. HR will opine on your recommendation and then meet with your manager.
  5. If both HR and manager approves, they will email you with their decision to WFH ongoing.

Best of luck.

This is a joke. I submitted mine and it was decline within 1 hour. All the paper work was there. no call to me AT all to find out what was going on.

Currently taking up to 3 months from submission just to assign a consultant. If you had one that was expired and seeking to extend, you can continue to telecommute while you wait for them to assign someone to review the extension request.

Three people on my team have medical exceptions to WFH. Process was pretty simple and approved real quick.

If you have a true medical need for WFH, those questions shouldn't matter because you need to do it. It wouldn't be an option.

Key word was “recently” … I’ve heard that review of these requests is currently backed up for months.

There is a search function and you can see the other 3000 posts on medical exceptions.
