Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Sip of my coffee

It takes an insecure man to have to tell you every time he's taking a sip of his coffee... (AMA)... It's not our fault all the engineers are leaving, it's those big tech giants on the west coast's fault, we don't need to look at the way we treat people, this guy makes me physically nauseous.

I see this exchange eventually.

“Can you get me of the hook?”

“Can’t do it, Sally.”

I have to agree with @OP+1haKTHJd 100%, Sal makes me sick to my stomach. How he speaks and smiles like all is ok while fielding mostly softball questions. People hate their jobs, there is absolutely no respect for the employees or morale within. No investment made whatsoever to help people enjoy their jobs which would benefit the company. I've never been able to understand how WF doesn't get the fact that by spending a little to have happy workers would benefit them ten times over in the long run.

All they care about is cutting cost, at any cost. "Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face" comes to mind.

I've been here a long time and the work environment has become nothing but a thankless fire drill sweat shop. Upper management has no clue about what happens on the front lines. If I came in as the new king and spent a month observing how things are, spending time with the engineers, seeing how people are miserable, the tone, confusion and low morale in meetings, how WF treats their workers, how Sal acts like all is great; I'd can Sal's a-s so fast he wouldn't have time to grab his coffee on the way out the door.

@3hvc+1haKTHJd same here! I went over to medical device/health. It's night and day leaps and bounds better than where I was at. It wasn't my immediate team or so much middle-mgmt as much as it was SVB and upper-mgmt that made this place miserable to work at.

SVB is clueless - they probably feel stuck with him because there are few actually-qualified people who they would be able to find as a replacement and even if they could find them, those people are smart enough to not work here. If they fire him they'll have nobody to keep sinking the ship. So now they're stuck with SVB, the poor man's broken version of a normal CTO/CIO/whatever they claim to call it at WFB.

"It's not our fault all the engineers are leaving, it's those big tech giants on the west coast's fault"

Lol, I didn't even go to a tech giant. I went to a different industry (health) and my pay went up a boatload with 100% remote. WF didn't even give me the courtesy of extending a counter offer.

@1mtv+1haKTHJd Here… yeah they told us that morning . But it was more like , ‘ we were already dotted line into control exec and now it is a solid line. Life will be great now .’ No one bought that of course . There is no way to sugar coat BS like that.

@1mtv+1haKTHJd Why didn’t Saul talk about the move of you guys out of Tech? Has anyone talked to you guys about it or did you just get the same Scott P email the rest of us got?

Yes he is much better than my own manager in Tech Control. She spoke to me exactly four times last year. Three times this year before I switched teams. Someone told me that she was at least communicating. So considering that level of intimate interaction, seeing the top man come on screening sipping coffee once a month is a treat, indeed.

Have to give a little credit here, at least they stopped with the canned question of whats your favorite pizza toppings. Considering we hear more information from him than 2-3 levels of management above the average employee.

Are you serious, I don't have the time in my day to spend it watching a guy sip coffee while he sits in front of his 'we're still racist" globe. Just because he communicates NOTHING of value, doesn't mean that's a positive, all that means is he took time out of the 4 roles in control eval that I'm already doing to cover those who have left. If you're not speaking anything of value, all you are is a cost center, that's why I stopped going to Julia Master B****'s, all they were is a circle jerk about diversity....

Can the jealous haters stop posting so we can actually share good info? At least Saul is communicating, unlike a lot of execs. He’s trying but has to work within the confines of the bank.

Never hearing from Dillon meant I had more time in my day for actual work. Now I spend more time reading shamelessly detached executive promotional material.

Exactly… Maybe some of you weren’t around or don’t remember our previous ‘head of technology’, Scott Dillon. Never heard from that guy, except emails. Rarely Town Halls, never an AMA, usually just some mindless email about hiring or retiring of execs. Totally worthless.

So if they can’t match the pay of tech companies, start offering other incentives. Stock would be a start. Granted it might be worthless, but at least it’s some form of additional comp.

Leave it to an executive at a bank to whine about big IT companies poaching talent by paying better.

The big tech giants aren't the ones making people leave. It is the toxic culture and continuous gas lighting in Digital tech and other tech orgs making people leave.

Saul isn't the bad guy. He tried to nerf RTO, first mass signing exceptions, then trying to redefine it as only Agile teams having to come in for a stand up meeting.

Powell is the one who usurped Saul on this.

Not Saul's fault, it's the people he reports to. If a man on a camera makes you sick, I feel sorry for you, I really do.

It got worse... Those freaking glasses... And he needs to stop drinking coffee while he is speaking. The burps are outrageous and when his cheeks are puffing out and he can't even speak, because he is on the brink of letting out a resounding belch, he really needs to stop! My gosh, man. Buy some class. Oh, I forgot. You can't buy that.

I want to see the numbers for attrition and compensation for both new hires and internal promotions. I don't 100% believe what he's saying. I know my team of 300 is not all of tech but we've had so many leave over the past year. Developers with 10, 15, 28 and 40 years (did not retire) of experience. Norwest guys. The irony is most did not leave because of RTO, they left because of the downward spiral of working conditions since Rider came. Bottom line, it is harder for me to do my job now than it was 2-3 years ago. I am expecting an offer this week from another company, if it falls through I will just apply again somewhere else.

If they think it's bad now, wait until 5 days in they office comes along. The execs seem to have the same kind of yes-men reporting to them that Putin has, so I'm not sure the grasp how big of an epic fail blanket RTO is.

How about too compensation? 401k match moved to end of year..?? Well compensated LOL. Moved to end of the year losing compounded interest for the employee and not getting any match if you leave the bank. Clueless? Or corrupt?
