Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Management needs to work harder on retaining talent

We are losing too many people who are taking a good chunk of institutional knowledge with them. We're already having issues with this, some processes are taking much longer than they should. If people continue leaving at this rate, the company will be in serious trouble within a year, if not sooner.

It makes me sad though oddly vindicated to see these posts, I left this mess seeing the writing on the wall years ago after Lightower was purchased, zero regrets, ever. There are a LOT of good jobs out there friends, don’t give yourself health issues day in and day out tolerating this good ol boys club (least diverse company I have ever worked for) that is using you and burning away your LIFE!

Hybrid rules inconsistent and broke. If CC office in the city, no if’s and but’s for select people. Fueling culture conflict and mistrust. What makes some special for remote?

My team supports corporate. They just started defining who does what and business processes. Did the new VP leader not on board 3+ years ago? If leader had no team vision for 3 years, is there confidence to set strategic vision for 2022 America's best midsize employer?

Similar snag with same newbie VP. Loud, cut throat and lacks leadership qualities. CC was in search of humble leaders that bring teams together. No?

A handful of leaders care but appears damage already done. Like before no action until more real damage and takes years to recover. Be accountable.

In marketing and found this site. Glad to see a forum outside with better pulse on the company culture versus everyone buying jet skis and european vacays. I heard that a newbie corporate VP vilified a person on our team. Saddening this behavior is permitted and encouraged by leadership, disconcerting leaders are hired if they are not a culture fit. Behavior mimics previous DT leader. Teammates won’t be raising if untrue. If the glove does not fit a quit.

@C1hu you, a great example of crown leader that only cares for the people that look like you. You need a leader coach. Telling a person to leave is in character with decision making at Crown, never a leader fix. It’s clear minorities are considered a risk, unpromotable, and utterly agree that the recession excuse will excoriate people of color to begin with here. Let’s show race stats after that round with the spin and lies about the minorities let go. Not all leaders are like you but we do have spineless leaders that won’t go against the grain seeing wrong. Raise the bar on minority leadership and reward on performance not bias.

I can’t really find anything on here that seems whiny. It might just be the way you see the world. Everyone has valid thoughts. However, living in an echo chamber is never healthy. When you claim to know what someone else is thinking it is called mind reading (https://www.groundworkcounseling.com/resources/cognitive-behavioral-therapy-cbt/mind-reading-anxiety-orlando-cbt-therapist-share/).

Maybe when the poors ask to have their wages tied to CPI - you consider that to be whining? Could you link to the whining you found?

Here are some of the current legitimate issues with CC. Jay Brown said on Fox that there is a labor shortage. Most employees saw their wages lose buying power year over year due to inflation. DT has spent 2 years on recommending Power BI and MS Teams. CC laid off over 500 employees a couple years ago (not current, but I am not alone in the belief that this event caused irreparable damage to the culture which resulted in the current issues regarding talent retention).

OP is right though. There are problems that may seem small, but the org has been working for years with multiple resources and zero progress. Without divulging too much info - the margin calculation mechanics on some classes of structures is unknown. This means that we do not know the true margin/value of a large percentage of our portfolio. Too many people with inside information have left making some projects literally impossible to accomplish. However, CC still wants mandatory meetings focused on the impossible projects - that is the definition of unsustainable.

When the recession hits soon, you all will change your tune about Crown. If you don’t like it here, why haven’t you left? I’m sorry you’re a miserable person, but if you can’t see that this is an amazing company, there’s no company you could work for and be happy. Do we have issues? Absolutely! Is this a great place to work? Absolutely!

Seriously, I encourage you to go look in the market place for another job. If you find the right fit for you, congrats…if you don’t, maybe consider crown isn’t as bad as you whine about.

What used to be an incredible company is becoming bad to work for. This may be due to the many recent acquisitions, bad leadership hires that are biased and discriminatory approach towards minority employees regardless of work history, education, professional accomplishments, among others. Internal employee advancement or promotion is not regarded. Promotion is contingent on "yes men" and circle of friends. It would be nice if leaders are given ethical trainings on how to communicate and motivate employees towards achieving the organizational goals. Additionally, the company need to understand that it is what it is today due to exceptional and loyal employees.
Most of my colleagues are disconnected due to several bad management decisions, toxic management, manipulation and personal retaliation. Employee talent, skill set, education and professional accomplishments is not appropriated nor regarded.
This is how organizations lose talented "A" and “B"players. Camera panning to minority during the meetings is not inclusion and diversity. Those two must feel used. Disingenuous exploits.

I guess CCI shouldn't have laid off the 500 skilled staff in 2019 that had intimate knowledge and experience of the network. Now let's backfill those jobs with a bunch of kids who don't their own head from thier tail, and pay them dogshit. What a great way to be innovative! At least the shareholders are happy.

How long before crown starts their layoffs?

For some reason there is much disbelief over the idea of people leaving CC. There are a bunch of threads on this forum about past/future layoffs as well as people leaving on their own volition.

Jay Brown was just on Fox Business saying that there is a labor shortage around telecom and their attempts to recruit out of college and high school. Why are we trying to recruit new/inexperienced people when we could foster more growth inside CC by paying better and promoting from within?

The physical evidence is too damning - talented people are leaving in droves.

On a side note - I want everyone to be safe. I think we are on the verge of the biggest market crash of our times. The stock prices in the market are about as real as the points on "Who's line is it Anyway?" and a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Unless you already have another job lined up, I would not leave CC. The market is about to implode and I would rather get a large severance tied to my years in seniority than try to weather the upcoming economic storm elsewhere.
