RSUs

When they start giving RSUs to Outstanding CL25, how much you think it would be? Any ideas?

Up to now, a 2nd quintile 28 was getting 200 not 300. Also when they deposit, they are not the same since they cut for the tax by a fraction. In reality you are closer to 1000 RSUs in a realistic scenario which are around 30-35% of an annual salary at that level. Sorry but it is not a serious retention incentive. Likely you would leave for a 20% salary bump anyway so you can make the amount in less than 2 years.

Your maths is massively optimistic. I have RSU twice, once as a 27 and once as a 28. 7 years between the awards. As a retention tool is null and void.

100 sh for CL 25 in top quintile. But for all rank groups, this year, the top 10% RSU grant will be bumped up to recognize past year performance. remember the purpose of RSU is both recognition for performance and retention. For a CL 28 in second quintile will get 300 shares. Over 3 years this builds to over 1700 shares of UNVESTED RSU. If employee resigns, then he walks away from $170,000 worth of unvested RSU plus 6000 per year of dividends on the unvested (asumming $100/sh 3 years from now). XOM is playing the long game to retain top 2 quintiles. Bottom 3 quintiles in all CLs are non-regrettable resignations. Bottom 20% get no RSU in all CLs including executive, that encourages early retirement, when executives drop in ranking

Would be one thing it they vested in a year or even 100% at 3 years. If you do the math you are likely loosing out on that value by moving to another job for those 7 years. Another job likely means a guaranteed raise in your pocket immediately.

Its a choice.

The RSU are not golden handcuff like EM think. After the 40%+ tax, they are barely worth it to be competitive or make your think twice on staying. They only become worthwhile when you become executive. Heard they are opening up the executive program more to non execs so will have to see what that looks like. They need to make it worthwhile as there’s loads of CL29s ready to jump or have jumped.

I would guess somewhere around 100-120, given 26 is 160, 27 is 200 and 28 is 300

The amount given is peanuts. No disincentive to leave.

I never got any RSUs. However, I did buy x000 shares of EM stock at $40s, and, have been selling it out. LOL

@OP For a mere x00 shares, you are considering to stick around for years to suck it up more and more? Are you out of your mind? The mental health benefit you get by ditching these share is way way more valuable - who knows how much these shares will be worth in several years? LOL

If it's 160 shares, ask them to give it to you in CVX. They will be worth something in 7 years

If the value is the current stock price, it won't be worth anything by the time vested.

When I was a CL27 I got 200 shares then at CL28 300 shares a year, vesting over 3/7 years. So depending on the stock price and after the tax withholding it was like an extra $15k/year of cash, which I’m not complaining about, and the pseudo-dividends were nice too, but definitely not near enough to keep me working there after seeing DW and TG’s true feelings about the employees.

Normally it’s 160 shares, remember only half are fully vested in 3 years with the other half in 7 years.

As an experienced hire who received RSU three years ago. The amount was embarrassingly small compared to my former employers. The gesture was nice though.
