I'm actually looking to come back, probably a crazy move but I kinda miss the don't work Friday situation.
Any insight on how many external hires are being considered these days?

Don't come back. It's bad. Dead end. Resist. Find a different place.
I’ve never seen so many external hires. Easy peasy to get back in.
10 AM - 3 PM slacker crowd and managers did nothing about it. By 3 PM Friday, the office cleared. Scam artists faking their sales numbers, and managers put them on a pedestal and promoted them. Fraudsters run up their expense report drinking hundreds of dollars of alcohol at the hotel bar. No one batted an eye. Blatant, overt cronyism and racial/age discrimination. Nothing was done. It isn't worth the personal reputation loss being associated with these kinds of grifters and shady clowns. If you do come back, have a spine and try to create real, lasting, positive change so the place gets cleaned up.
Please don't hold your breath HR is a total mess right now. They can't get anything done.
What group had "don't work Fridays"?
On the plus side, we've had so many leave (or retire), that it should be pretty easy to get back in (unless someone checked the "Not eligible for rehire" box in your record.
On the minus side, I remember 20-25 years ago, some groups had "summer Fridays" (half day on Fridays betw Memorial Day-Labor Day), but those days are long gone.
Make sure whoever gave you "don't work Fridays" is still there to do that for you again. Every group I know is severely understaffed, so we're expected to do all the work of the departed people on top of our regular work. Ask a LOT of questions first.

I've been gone 2 years now after 9 years at BofA. I really like how, in the right team, you can fade to black and do minimal work. Yes, the place can be aggravating with business politics and craziness, but like an abusive relationship, the abused usually wants back in
Right. Good question. What is don’t work Fridays? Most people do the dont work any day of the week. So why only Friday?
People come back all the time, but if I can ask, what was is the reason? What is don't work Fridays?
