Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How do I make sure I'm on good standing for rehire?

I got a good offer from another company but it's much smaller than XOM and I'm worried about what my job security will look like there, especially if we enter another financial crisis. I don't want to miss this opportunity, but I also don't want to burn any bridges for the future. Other than giving proper notice, is there anything else I can do to ensure I'm not put on a blacklist for rehiring?

This post got me thinking about someone who took the PIL then was brought back several months later to their same position as a contractor because of so many employees that left on their own will. Since the great resignation and Mass Exxodus, XOM has continued to re-hired people who resigned.

Before 2005, XOM rarely re-hired. Re-hiring started in about 2005 when competition was stiff. Nevertheless, Leaving then trying to come back proves the employee has both BAD Judgment and NO LOYALTY. Plus rehires having a hirer attritiion rate once re-hired.. Better to hire on campus and in the 5 to 10 year experienced hire range. With no re-hiring.

If they rehire you. You will be lucky, but to comeback. Now, it is a regrettable company like another company at O&G buisness.

Rehire here. Also left on good terms early on in career. Came back after acquiring 15 years of solid experience EM needed. When I came back they were very open and transparent about realistic roles and trajectory I would have. 15 years later I can say they kept to their word and it turned out just as they said. RE and still going strong as expat.

I’m a re-hire. My exit was regrettable classified because I did it right when I left. Don’t bad mouth your peers, company or management.

Explain that you received an opportunity that you’d really like to explore. Absolutely put in a 2 weeks notice or more. Tell your supervisor about this only after you have the job.

When you leave it is hard to come back. Hopefully up to this point you’ve been a great performer and not stirring up stuff so to speak. Having people that enjoy working with you and value your work ethics go a long way.

Best of luck to you.
