Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Media coverage

Once again I am very disappointed with the media coverage of the layoffs here and I wonder why it is so poor?

It's because they structure layoffs in small enough numbers to avoid having to file WARN notices. When there were some reductions local to me a few years ago, someone reported it to our local paper and mgmt was swift to call meetings, send emails etc. trying, as usual, to spin it into strategic investment.

Traditional media has also been experienced its own industrywide hollowing-out, and whatever ability it had to cover this kind of thing has diminished.

There is a reason for the lack of media coverage. US Bank keep the layoffs small, and spaced out, avoiding the media. They ahve been doing this for years.

Along with that, another group in CA was laid off today.

The fact is, this isn't unique to U S Bank, and we're not the most interesting company in the midst of it. There has been local coverage in different areas about layoffs in the past. With everything else going on right now, I wouldn't hold my breath this time.

if every company had huge media coverage covering layoffs, there wouldn't be enough time in the day to show it all.
