Thread regarding IBM layoffs

I may be the only one who found it difficult to give notice

I thought that I would be very happy the day I finally give notice and that I would do it with a smile. But I'm actually very sad. Anyone else?
I am sad primarily because I think this was a great company and that it could have been much better here than it is now. There were some great times here.

It has more to do with you than the company.
When I recently left another company, finding a job was easier than leaving work and friends behind. I did not expect this to be so difficult.

IBM: the longer you stay standing in the dogshit, the more you get used to the smell.

Good god OP. You might as well have stepped in a huge pile of dog sh-t, paused for a moment to confirm, and then stepped out of it with hesitation. Go forth my friend. You are one of the lucky ones!

I have a personal tradition were as I wear my vintage McDonald's uniform shirt to work the day that I give notice. At the smarter planet I enjoyed notice day like all the other hellholes I've worked at.

The nepotism has made it impossible to have any upward mobility.
Leaving or threatening to leave is the only way you get a decent raise.

I was a little sad at leaving but knew it was the best decision. Sadness wasn't to do with IBM - but more the people i worked with, most were pretty good people. Being in a new company I have learnt I should of left years ago, I had become stale and so out of touch with how real sales companies work. its nice to talk to customers that actually want to talk to you and are interested in what the company can do to help them. It was almost like with IBM it was the last resort for the customer - aka they had no choice but to use IBM. I might be wrong but thats how I saw it.

I agree with both responses. So well expressed and perhaps the reason I am more outspoken in a job I feel they need me more than I need them. I went out with over 40 years and accepted a full time position totally different from the corporate culture I truly miss.

Yeah, that sounds right. Like getting divorced. You morn what is no longer and will never be. All while celebrating you've finally broken clear of the psychopath who was using you mercilessly.
