Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The gaslighting is out of control

I am one to speak my mind and it’s not served me well the last few years at the company. I know all companies have some corporate speak, but lately, the BS that is coming from management is bordering on lunacy.

I am actively searching for a new job, but this last week has me contemplating quitting. On three occasions, I have been directly told something that is absolutely not true. When I double or tripled down, I was faced with more gaslighting. I can take some id--tic behavior, but this is getting completely out of hand. How in the he-l can we survive as a company when basic, non-negotiable facts are not recognized and complete BS is pushed down our throats?

I realize this is more of a rant than anything else. As a scientist, I grew up embracing science and now I feel like this company is operating in an alternate reality. A reality based on anything but facts or basic common sense, yet we are expected to quietly go along with the farce. It is both incredibly disappointing and infuriating.

Management/Leadership promised to be more "Transparent". I think their definition of "Transparent" is Gaslighting. They continue to operate in their secret society of White Alpha males now sprinkled in with women and minority puppets. If you haven't been identified in your first 5 years as a potential member, the longer you stay the more your career growth will be stunted.

I think most business textbooks won't mention the EM way business was run in the early 21st Century.
It will not be in the textbooks the way we know it.
We will be called 'compensated servants' and 'the working class' or somesuch.
History written and read by the gas-light.

Yes, the BS in this company is completely out of control. It’s impossible to imagine a company who wants to survive but where people are not ranked on their actual work but on the roles that they have secured for themselves (“impact”). Same thing for Skill Assessments, where high level skills are reserved by definition for people with “leadership” positions.
Imagine a construction company who wants to know how many experienced welders it actually has, and where managers are allowed to rank themselves as highly skilled welders because they did that for a short while twenty years ago, and now they have been promoted, so they are better than all regular workers at all skills.
This garbage will be featured in business textbooks as an example of management sabotaging their company.

The famously global gaslighter title is still retained by our fearless EMIT hotshot, BK.

OP is spot on. The only place I see normal behavior and interactions is at the hard-core drilling and operations level where we are doing with fewer resources. Other places in the Company more remote from the real business have list their f n minds. What total unadulterated horsesh1t.

I personally prefer ghosting to gaslighting.

The company has no integrity. Perhaps it never did, and it's only the last 2 years where it's become so blatant and transparent. In any case, I sympathise with you and know how you feel. Ignore it and milk it. Sh-t does as sh-t is.

I hear you. One of my former manager tried gaslighting tactics on me trying to get me to support his agenda. Insinuating that if I go along with his BS then he and I can get our promotions. I got the he-l out of there because my integrity and the integrity of the products that we sell would be on the line. Multiple examples of gas lighting, plagiarism, and power grab. Can’t stand the toxic work environment anymore so I quit.
