Are divorce rates increasing at Chevron

Has Chevron lost respect for our personal and family time. Please stop scheduling meeting at 6 and 7pm. I have 3 kids under ten, and 3/4 days a week I get requests for meetings during dinner and bed time. JUST STOP assuming I work 24 hours a day. I already work 50 hour a week because my team is short staffed.

Easy answer: Don’t work for a global company. No one is forcing you to,

Can’t have a global meeting without inconveniencing somebody.

As a employee working a global job traveling 3 plus months a year, it never impacted my marriage of 38 years. I did however wait until my kids were grown before starting such an intense travel position.

There are two situations I'll bend the rules and take a meeting at some ridiculous hour:

  1. Overseas team with an issue at hand that I can directly help them with. I'll work on their time as long as it's not an every day thing.
  1. Rig is on fire.

It typically depends on your management--- most respect reasonable hours (though you get the occasional bad boss who wants you available 24/7).

I remember a conference call with Shell from Moscow (I was home in California). Call began at 2am (California). Shell asked if it was OK for the meeting to take a 15 minute break at 3am (my time) and could I stay on the line. Like I was going someplace at 3am :) Even the coffee shops don't open until 5am.

Occasional (silly) uncomfortable hours are necessary for a global business

I am young and single. Still don't appreciate meeting invites in my evenings, my early mornings and on my freaking Fridays off. I already worked those hours and then some, leave me alone!

I'm fine with occasional offschedule hours for meetings with overseas groups, but when we're all in the same time zone? What's the point of demending that we all be on the same schedule if people are gonna pull this BS? And what's the point of my working 9/80 if I'm not going to get to enjoy my 10th day?

Decline after hours meetings and shut off alerts on your smartphone. This is the only way to keep boundaries.

If you are working nights and weekends to get everything done then that's a sign that the workload is too much.

Unfortunately a lot of people have been brain washed by the wealthy and their political party that its patriotic and heroic to work as many extra hours as possible and give up your family life in the mean time. Thats true freedom! Yes you should work hard and give your company good work but not at the expense of your family life.

I have this exact same problem. On Mondays when I am in the office, I get 3 requests for meetings while I drive home at 530 for 630,7 or 8pm meetings. Hybrid schedules are a great benefit, but please remember that I do not work 24 hours a day. It is better for me to take meetings at 2am than 7pm.

In CTC (ETC) I have consulting work in just about every time zone. For many years I traveled extensively, but in later years I switched more to remote meeting (thanks to technology improvements) and then with the pandemic all meetings became remote. If you find an hour meeting late at night too disruptive, don’t even think about a position that requires lots of travel across time zones. That said, to each his (her) own and I am sure there are lots of positions within Chevron that allow bankers hours only.

If you work with BUs spread across the globe it is hard to avoid “after hours” meetings. That said, I am sure there are lots of positions you can find within Chevron where your reach is only local. Seek and you will find.

Anything scheduled before 8 or after 5 in my time zone I view optional and 99% of the time I don't bother to attend. Sc--w their lip service, take back the time that is yours.

Maybe people (and perhaps you included) are blocking their calendars during the day for fake meetings to do non-work stuff while WFH like taking kids to/from school and extracurricular activities, going to the gym, hiking, doing laundry, prepping meals, running errands, etc. (you know…all the life balance stuff) so only time to really meet is early evening.
