Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Climbing the corporate ladder

I have no interest in building my career trying to climb the corporate ladder at Exxon. I plan to leave soon. However, I know a few who are trying to climb as high as possible. Moving into management certainly has a lot of pros, but I believe there are a lot of cons as well?

One major flaw that n the EM Corporate Ladder/Sponsor system is that certain new hires are chosen and a rocket inserted in their backsides before adequate assessment is possible.

Some true id--ts get moved upward. The Sponsor refuses to admit to choosing an id--t, so pushes the id--t further upward. These id--ts grow onto incompetent dangerous as-----s with enough power to do major damage.

There needs to be systematic thumping of Sponsored id--ts off the ladder and out of EM.

The ladder is kept in a secret location.

You obtain the map to the ladder from your Sponsor.

No sponsor=no access to ladder

Bent over the rail is a good image of a fine start.
Hands free, btw.

@OP You’re behind the curve.

There is no “corporate ladder” to climb. The ladder, to the extent such a thing ever existed, was kicked out decades ago.

In recent years, the way to make your way up the corporate food chain has been to job-hop, picking up “experience” and credentials along the way. Or, start your own business, where you provide limited services at slightly higher pay to the same corporate dirtbags who bent you over the rail and pumped you in the keaster to begin with.

It truly is a wonderful time to be alive….

Once you have s good relationship with one of your upline they'll tell you your trajectory. It is as good as cast in stone. Use it for planning

If you talk loud and interrupt colleagues a lot, you’re a natural. Hang in there!

The fact that EM didn't advertise internal position is an indication, that you can't apply for higher position, unless you know someone who knows someone in the company...if you have no longer interest to climb the corporate ladder, my suggestion is for you to get out of EM...From my experience, many EM employees didn't understand how the outside world is working, and the longer you work for EM, the more you are going to be brainwashed by the company...yes, safety at work is really important, but that doesn't mean you have to be stupid just because of safety procedures...

Just curious the impact on loyalty and morale of senior executives when DW chose outsider new hires to fill top positions.

An EM Exec works 30 years to achieve a certain position then sees a New Hire from a distillery chosen instead. Bo-m!

Maybe we will see more top Execs leave for other companies if they do not see a future at EM.

As an experienced external hire, I’ve seen the worst examples of management here. Maybe I’ve been fortunate to have worked at other places where managers are great or at least harmless. But here, some very toxic “climbers” and “scammers” are allowed to thrive.

No cons. During the layoff and PIL, management is almost immune to it. You can do no wrong.

No one selected for these positions is capable of detecting any 'cons' in their elevation.

Whether it's a natural thing, like a specific gene sequence, or nurture, like having no love in your childhood, there's just that 'something' that gets you selected.

Everytime I've seen a compadre take the 'leader' pill, I've taken them out for a couple of Shiners and played these songs on the jukebox:

  • climbing: spect out (Emp - Publc Image Ltd. disappointed)

  • deeper in: on the stairs (Emp - Brian Eno dead finks)
