Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Had to tell HR that I cannot tell the employees that they can’t discuss their pay

This just happened and I had to post on my alternate. I was discussing an employee who worked there for a long time but was making less than the newer people. Way less. Wanted to bump him up and HR was peeved and wanted to know how the employee knew the pay rates and I stated that everyone talks. She tried to hit me with we need to discourage that because it is “ hearsay“. Lol. I said it is federally protected and I cannot. I only know this thanks to this sub.

Oh well good news. I got my employee the raise.

Bear in mind, what a particular CL makes is also dependent on the business line they are hired into. A CL23 engineer in upstream is most likely going to be paid more that a CL23 hired into downstream. I'm a CL23 ranked VG with 8 years experience that works in a service org and make far less than the numbers quoted just below. That I get paid less than an entry level engineer is not surprising and I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Tell us some numbers. How much are we paying new hires? What CL do we start new hires at?

The use of “alternate” (this is a fully anonymous site with no accounts, so therefore no alternates) and “sub” tell me this post isn’t XOM specific, but a copy paste from Reddit, most likely the r/antiwork subreddit

So to all the people asking real questions about this scenario, just know that this isn’t XOM related, so the details you’re looking for either don’t exist or are made up

I've said this time and time again, discuss your pay!
Ever heard the term "squeakiest wheel gets the grease"?
HR/Supervisors depend on simple employee ignorance to have large gaps between pay. DISCUSS YOUR PAY and say something and note on your 1:1 follow ups.
Hold Supervisors accountable.

Good for you! Small win but feel good standing up to a ridiculous assumption that employees cannot share personal details, should they decide to.

@fhq+1hnsgFWN... guess we found the HR rep.

This all sounds pretty plausible to me.

Our HR is worthless and I can confirm this is accurate as our new hires were asked to sign a smaller form of a NDA in commercial and trading.
