Thread regarding IBM layoffs

This is random: Qantas and Telstra (biggesgt Australian companies) are parting ways with IBM and Fujitsu

Qantas is parting ways with IBM and Fujitsu, in addition to Telstra, under a major technology modernisation program. The "natural" end of the airline's large and long-running IT relationships was accelerated by the pandemic, which encouraged Qantas to be "bold" in coming up with ways to reduce its technology spend and to set the airline up for the future, according to group CTO Michael Ross.

Another big company is getting rid of mainframes and expects to save $400M per year.

Other companies will notice and want that savings too.

What do IBM and Fujitsu have in common? They both make mainframes. Fujitsu has announced it is exiting that business. What will IBM do after mainframe is abandoned by more companies?

How is this affecting IBM Mainframe business down under? Is it just IBM infrastructure management, or is also affecting Mainframe workload on these clients?

Headline is wrong - Quantas is also cutting ties with Telstra, Telstra is not cutting ties with IBM/Fujitsu.

More importantly Quantas is cutting down on on-prem, moving into more AWS & SAAS. As more big companies follow IBM's enterprise market will continue to shrink.
