Among friends and family, I used to feel somewhat proud to have worked at at&t. Not anymore, I never admit to working at at&t, If asked, I reply that I worked in telecom. I have to admit it's now embarrassing to admit to anyone, Thanks Stephenson and Stankey for destroying at&t.

It’s not the company that it used to be with their silly MSOC and the bloodthirsty managers. I’m still grateful that I made a lot of money and had a great job to raise a family and save for retirement. I’ve also made some lifelong friends and worked with some good people.
Best kept secret for me. Many T employees still think T is an admired company! Sorry to disappoint you.

I just tell relatives at family gatherings that I work at Burger King. It's a lot less embarrassing than admitting to working for AT&T.

No but I am a little reluctant to tell anyone I was a bouncer at the local mid-et strip club. There would be big fights there and sometimes I’d come to T with bumps and bruises. I quit that side hustle and began teaching the dancers math. I called that job “Making the Little Things Count.”
I was embarrassed about being part of T from the very first day they invaded DTV and turned us all into their subjects. I continued to say I worked for DIRECTV the entire time I was with T (I escaped a couple years ago) because even if people weren't impressed or happy with DTV, it was still a better reaction than saying I was with T.

He-l NO, I'm not embarrassed! I live in an $800k home, thank you AT&T, have a very nice 401K, several very good investments and getting ready to retire in a year or 2. I'm only a craft guy and have done very well with T thank you very much!
You probably have a few other things you should be embarrassed about.
No, I had a long career at a nice salary, and I met long-time friends. Most people outside AT&T have no clue how the company functions internally. They know the name and associate it with the phone system. It never bothers me to say I worked for AT&T.
No why would I need to discuss it. They provided a career for me to care for my family and for that I am grateful.
I don't tell people where I work because I don't want to hear the complaints about service or get asked if I can give them a free phone.
I recommend Metro PCS or Cricket Wireless. Both are fare cheaper with far superior networks and no contracts.

I simply tell people how horribly they treat their employees and that they can get cheaper services elsewhere. I even provide them links that shows how much they'll overpay.
