VP title is handed out like water. Mediocrity is rewarded, but if you eat a55 well enough, you may get more than those who’ve shown loyalty (or inability to transfer out) by staying

To the poster asking about the Specialist role, yes, that is generally a VP position in my experience. But, probably depends on business line, etc. Analyst role is below specialist and is not VP.
If you are currently an employee, you can find the salary bands in various internal sites publically.
BNY has 3 salary grades which correspond to "VP", while other companies have AVP, VP, and SVP. This is why everyone, even ones who are just doing menial backoffice work with no reports, is a VP in BNY.
