Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoff News

Heard some folks in certain sales titles have been notified that July 8th is their last day. Six months severance offered. Some were Diamond Club this past year. It's getting tight.

Are you old, do you make max for your pay range, are you smarter than your manager, do you refuse to wear knee pads....these are a few clues.

I got surplused because I made more money than our worthless AVP. Came back in another group at same pay so sometimes they lay you off out of spite.

I saw earlier this week the VP of Billing is retiring and consolidating that operation with another VP for Fraud. Getting rid of a lot of upper deadwood!!

Laser focus layoffs. Your performance does not matter. It never did. Just simple cost saving procedure. Expect more as we getting into recession and selling costly T product will be tough.

@vwm, The large decline in 2021 was the rebadging of ~10,000 that went with DTV.

Severance isn't "offered". It's paid out in accordance with the terms as defined in the severance plan, available for review on HR One Stop. 6 months is max by the way; not everyone would be eligible for 6 months, dependent on length of service.

Why does a company need sales staff when the public doesn't want any of their stuff?

Post ID: @uyp+1hr4e2KN - difficult to say if churn will be significant.

Over the last year or two T has returned to heavily subsidized devices which effectively locks people into a 3 year agreement so they get the bill credits to pay for the device. Note this subsidy was extended to existing customers which is not the norm. The promo is typically reserved for new subs. I think that has a lot to do with the recent uptick in subs that Stankey has been so happy to report. Most cases it also requires an unlimited plan.

Tha being said it will not be easy for these customers to leave. I assume there is significant early termination fee if they leave.

Should have collaborated more and been in the "Super Duper Platinum Club".
Perhaps your "team" could help you out.

I am amazed that Ratbert Santone and the Stink would pay ANYONE severance when they have so many other ways at Toxic-T to get rid of people for FREE.

Remember, 6 months is only if you have 25(?) years of service? Otherwise it is a sliding scale depending on net credit service - at least for Management anyway.

Should be no surprise. Layoffs will continue as normal, performance is not necessarily one of the criteria. With prices to end users increasing, you’ll see marked churn that won’t be offset by the price increases. The price increase, especially in this economic environment simply won’t sit well with T and V customers. Plan for your next career, be proactive and save. Don’t let it catch you off guard. T was a great company, but is now simply selling a commodity, there is no significant value add any longer..sad but true.

Instead of mass layoffs, Stankey and Santone are using a more "surgical" approach.

Unfortunately history has shown past / recent performance is not considered when it comes time to layoff folks. Those of us that have seen folks close to us get let go often wonder what the criteria is.
