Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Asking for a Package

Co-worker asked our manager for a severance package. Manager said they would "look into it". I am sure this will not end well for my friend. Thoughts?

If management in that department learns of a layoff coming, they probably appreciate some volunteers. Win-Win (once you use the opportunity to lay off the non performers first).

Do not understand why any corporation would pay severance. Just make the employees life miserable and he/she would leave.

I also asked and was told "No, not you" and "I'm not giving up the headcount. Too hard to ever get it back."

Suggested the headcount be moved to Charlotte and they give me a package.

Manager said, "not happening".

Unless you are in a truly overstaffed area (like Mortgages), no reason to pay you out.

Not understanding the “this won’t end well” statements… if someone has gotten to the point that they are asking for a severance package, they are probably prepared to manage themselves out. You can’t manage someone out that doesn’t give a shilt.

The bank has no desire to hand out severance to anyone and they sure won’t zero out a job just because your coworker wants out. The goal to press their boots on people to the ant to quit or to developed people who put up with anything.

Forgot to add that my co-worker asked for his position "to be eliminated", to remove headcount. I know zero about this so cannot wait to see how this turns out.

Managers have no power to decide who gets a package and who doesn't. This will 100% end poorly for this individual.

I think you're coworker will get "managed out" as most LOBs are hiring right now. In other words, no severance package.
