Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Who will be affected?

I’m in a pretty hopeless situation, timing couldn't be worse. I see that there are others here who, like me, if they get laid off in October, will not get the company match 401K.
No one can know who the target group will be, but is there at least some speculation about who might be affected?

OP should consider going off on stress leave until his milestone is met?

If you are let go before 3 years, it is because you suck.

There are many companies where your 401k match will vest the same year. Why work for a company that will punish you and get out the cheap way by letting it vest years down the road?
In an economy with fluctuation and a company that's restructuring 2 times a year this is just them saving money on your retirement. So I say, they sc--w you over.

That this has been going on for two decades only goes to show how weak the American worker is in this company.

@1sce+1hs7qB73 If less than 3 yrs at the company and you are gone, don’t get the match.

Why do you think you won't get your match if you get laid off in October?

@avb+1hs7qB73 "If you work in hardware or mechanical areas, sorry to say these will be wound down quickly as the company future has no use for these areas any longer in the transformation plan."

Will be interesting to see what Ford sells if that is the case. Hard to build vehicles without the mechanical or hardware areas.

Lol! Previous poster- no one is messing with the match, I guess the OP has not met 5 years of service to vest yet. This has been in place for 25+ years. No scr-wing around.

You know it's a shty company if they scrw around with 401k match. They may tell you an excuse for why they are doing this but regardless of that, they do. No matter where you go next, never let them fck with your retirement. This economy is brutal and greed is everything these days. Also in this country people absolutely don;t care about each other. So if you end up poor when you're old you can't hope for help or understanding.

Nothing much to say otherwise. If they don't let you go now you will just stupidly continue to work there and be regretful when they let you go a few years later. You'll be fired then by people that don't know how a car even works, that only do data and software and they will talk about you as if you're a useless fck who didn't see it coming. D-Ford is an excellent example of that. You explain to them what it is you do in Michigan and they merely smile at you and become arrogant and co--y as fck. making compliments as if you are a b-m. To them, MI is just "the old". Or maybe that's just CA in general idk.

Then again there is a recession coming. So it might not matter anyway...

While power-point skills are indeed important, if your skill set is in data, analytics, or software, you will be safe. Ford is transforming into a data-led company and naturally these are the skills Ford will protect to enable our corporate future growth.

If you work in hardware or mechanical areas, sorry to say these will be wound down quickly as the company future has no use for these areas any longer in the transformation plan.

You can't give a serious reply, but then reply anyways. Too funny! Then you state until a few months ago, your role was 100% PowerPoint. Apparently, you are now in a HTHD pay structure (and apparently know you are safe). You are proving the point of the person's post about keeping PowerPoint employees. You aren't going anywhere because they reclassified your PowerPoint skills at HTHD! HTHD is just a buzzword like "Quality is Job 1".

I can't even entertain that as a serious reply, but I can say I'm speaking directly from experience. My prior role was 100% PowerPoint and was [rightfully] disbanded a few months ago. This is partially due to a recent push from Doug Field, along with things like the new HTHD pay structure, etc.

To the previous poster -- I like your logic about skills, etc.

But this is Ford - PowerPoint is a skill that is highly valued at Ford. People with PowerPoint skills aren't going anywhere (except for maybe a promotion to LL6, unless they are over a certain age, wage scale, gender, race, etc.)

I'm just pointing out that you might have your logic backwards since this is Ford. It may be you on the way out if you actually have talent/skills (you imply you are one of the 90%).

If you don't believe me, look around you. Does anything really make sense anymore??

Our leadership has in essence been telling us for the past year. You are probably at risk if you are in a low tech, low demand type of role. But 90% of us will be fine.

If you have skills that will help you easily find a job elsewhere, Ford will probably want to keep you. If your job is 100% in PowerPoint, then...
