Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Lightning”s first recall. How bad are we at launch.

Just like any other new Ford platform launch (except we are betting our future on EV”s).

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks due to a safety issue with the tire pressure monitoring system, as first reported by Reuters.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the tire pressure monitoring system light may not activate when intended, therefore rendering itself unable to notify owners when tire pressure is too low.

The hazards: a vehicle that cannot adequately inform an owner of low tire pressure could possibly exhibit poor handling, leading to a loss of control, leading to the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: Body Control Module.

Affected vehicles: select 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks with 20-inch or 22-inch tires built at the Ford Rogue Electric Vehicle Center.

Number of vehicles affected: 2,886 pickups with:

  1. 666 pickups in the United States

220 pickups in Canada
The fix: dealers will can install a software update to fix the issue. Alternatively, Ford will be sending out an over-the-air update within the next 30 days for all Lightning owners.

The question is not "how bad are we at launch". Its the basics: design, prototype, proveout and test, FMEA, assembly process, then launch. And the processes that integrate those 6 things. Launch just tells you if you know how to do your basic business or not.

What, no supplier to blame CarCar?

We are the problem with no one held accountable.

Ford has announced the company is issuing a recall for certain 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks. The safety recall is specifically for vehicles with 20” or 22” all-season tires and is centered on the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The TPMS light may not illuminate properly which can lead to customers not being provided with adequate warning of a low tire pressure situation. Ford explains that the issue is because the recommended tire cold inflation pressure value in the Body Control Module (BCM) was incorrectly set to 35 psi rather than the correct inflation pressure of 42 psi. Therefore, the warning won't be issued until the tire pressure is lower than 35 psi, 7 lbs lower than the proper warning threshold.

I am surprised....that it took this long for the 1st one! Probably because the deliveries have been so slow, 2886 is actually a large percentage of Lightnings on the road!

Software fix? Thought we were a software/data company. Rough water and more recalls ahead.
