Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Not enough people to do the work

I'm happy for all of you who don't have enough to do but we're swamped. About a third of our people have been displaced - most of them through layoffs and some due to attrition - and yet we keep getting increased amounts of work. Who in the world could believe something like this is sustainable?

T is an unhealthy company. The only thing they know is cutting costs by offshoring and pushing workers harder. You could do nothing until they back off or lay you off.

the plan is working, don't need layoffs when you can achieve your numbers via natural attrition. Brilliant plan keeps T under the radar. Only 75K to go!

Which organization is swamped? Let me sent you some resources. We have extra people who will be willing to help.

Maybe an MBA clown who doesn't care about sustainability just wanted to add "30% reduction in operating costs" to their resume before job hopping to it's next victim. Don't wait for pity and either start applying to other places or stop letting yourself be a pushover.

Gain some valuable time back in your day by staying off these boards during business hours.

If there is more work than there are people to perform that work, do you really think T is willing to make matters worse for its employees! I believe that T will realize that it needs to be addressed and will start moving in the right direction. Either that, or start selling off some of the business units that profitable, but not part of the overall picture. Once T determines its position and where it wants to be in the industry, I believe things will start to improve. It can only get better at this point because T morale has hit rock bottom!

Are you all wireless or on the broadband side? Just curious which group is swamped?

A days work is a days work. The rest gets pushed to the next work day. I get paid for a days work. No bonus for doing more in a day.

Agreed. We are in the same situation. Now we are told there is a hiring freeze.
This is unsustainable.
I suspect a surplus is on the horizon.
