Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

HR - Where?

How is it possible that our entire HR organization is a black box. I don’t even know who my HR representative is (if I even have one) nor who I would even go to if I had a real issue. How can instruction for all scenarios be “go to your manager” when your manager is probably half of you possible problems?

HR does not exist to help or protect employees
HR (and Law) exists for the sole purpose to protect the corporation

In TGs back pocket to serve her agenda and orders on a whim.

As an experienced hire, I was shocked to see how invisible HR is here. I get it that ultimately they’re company first, but at other majors you at least know who your rep is. Here, no clue. “Goto/whereever”

Complained to HR after being threatened by a manager, followed up with them weeks later to see what happened and they finally responded saying the “feedback was communicated”, aka nothing was done. What a joke

Just look at the self proclaimed leaders in all HR areas, made up of inexperienced and incompetent folks that has none to very little HR experience. And yes, this included TG as well. The experienced ones have left or are leaving. And those that are sticking through again don't have skill to find a job outside. So in a nutshell the HR can't help their own. How do you expect to help you in any meaningful way?

Just feel free to send a note directly to the HR boss Tracey G., if you have any issues. She will resolve it as swiftly and efficiently as how she master minded execution of layoffs.

Wait a minute. HR? We still have an HR department? I assumed they all got replaced by rumba's.

HR’s job is to protect Senior Management.

I filed a complaint with HR and instead of taking HR action, I was threatened to “officially retract my complaint and do damage control to salvage my career”.

Every capable HR person I’ve known the past 5 years has left the company. I cannot imagine what it must have been like for them to have to spew the corporation’s pablum and “kinder gentler” policies while so many people were forced out. They had a truly thankless job and were never in a position to do anything about anything. It took me a while to realize it, but you have to take responsibility for your own career and HR is going to represent the company interests, and not those of the employees.

That’s why I vent here now.

Always remember HR is not your friend. HR’s primary mission is to mitigate XOM exposure period full stop.

The HR employees are generally shills and protectors for the corporation, as stated repeatedly below. Scabs, in a sense.

Most HR actions, including methods for eliminating personnel, are scripted by outside consultants. There is a whole industry build for this. Pretty lucrative.

HR will help with policy violations like se-ual harassment or racial discrimination, but if you want to complain about an incompetent manager or an unjust system, you're on your own. Tread lightly when considering to bring HR to the party.

What are you all missing? Of course HR protects the company which is why you take potential legal issues TO. the HR department at any other company to avoid lawsuits against the company. Simply saying HR isn’t your friend, get over it doesn’t make sense if you are also saying HR just protects the company.

HR protects the company from lawsuits nothing more. Don’t expect them to help you.

When I ask ‘Who is making this decision?’ I often times get refusal to provide an ExxonMobil contact person. I know HR is looking out for the company first and foremost, but when their specifics contradict the intent of the policy, I expect to be able to get to an actual person to speak with. At the end of the day, hiring a new employee is way more labor intensive and expensive to the company than just having a meaningful discussing on whether something is amiss with benefits/compensation.

Omg … companies HR dept’s are not for employee representation but company protection; just like insurance companies, pay your premium but when you want to seek a claim Nationwide is not on your side regardless of what Peyton Manning may say in TV commercials. HR is only for the company and management protection, not for the employee … sorry OP to burst your bubble if you think HR is suppose to be an advocate for you … welcome to the big leagues:)

HR is useless and has always been that. Once you are hired, they hand off everything to your supervisor who has no training or experience in what HR is supposed to do. That's why they finally figured out that the first place to downsize is HR since they are worthless. Ironically, they have been gifted the ability to continue with the toxic performance assessment system that is bringing the whole company down to it's knees and soon to a faceplant.
