Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

It is fair that Verizon store employees don’t earn more than store employees at Walmart.

It’s nor my intention to put down any of the retail employees. God knows their jobs are hard. However, don't we deal with more complex issues and doesn't our job require more knowledge and skill? To me it is simply not fair

What does OP get paid and what do you think you deserve to be paid? How much do Walmart workers make?

Retail clerks should make $20 in my opinion. It's a job not a career. Want to earn more? Go to college.

Any company will pay whatever is needed to attract the kind of people they want. If they are getting enough qualified people at WalMart wages then there is no issue from the company's and shareholders' point of view. If you want more then you need to find somewhere that pays more for the type of knowledge and experience you bring to the table.

Not sure why Verizon stores still exist honestly.

OP it's not how hard you work but how much you are worth to the business. In a phone retail store you help 0 to 10 customers a day. In Walmart you may help 100 customers a day. So now tell me which worker is more valuable and deserves better pay ? If Walmart pays more and requires less brainpower then what is stopping you from working there?

Slapping a union label on a retail store employee isnt going to get you $50. Alot of success the union enjoys is due to rich people money not wanting wall street and other things to possibly miss a moment and needing telecommunications up at all times.

Maybe decades ago retail workers striking feom stores woulf have a big bit on the bottom line but unless call centers and all supporting web fufillment went offline I dont think most people would notice. I dont know anyone who has been to a store in a long time.

I'm in management so it wouldn't help me but you guys should unionize if you care about these jobs. If you don't that's fine. and A union isnt perfect, but follow this trajectory out 4 or 5 years. A union is better than where you are headed.

Just browsed the job search for Walmart. Haha, how do they offer wages similar to Verizon!? This is a joke. All of Verizon's employees are struggling to get by and working a very stressful job just to be compensated the same as a cereal stocker.
