Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Tired doesn't even begin to cover it

I've been here for close to a year and it feels like all I do is work. I have no personal life, everything revolves around this place. If I try to slow down and reduce my hours, my boss threatens my job. If I could quit I would have done it already, but for now, I'm stuck. Does it ever get easier?

You literally have to do something illegal to get fired. Don't let your manager intimate or bully you.

I succumbed to this running scared with insane hours for years not realizing until I woke up and saw others (making more than me) working fewer hours.

Figure out how to be efficient (not easy at first), do the bare minimum and put yourself first. Make some small mistakes on purpose. If you are too good, they will just give you more to do.

If teammates or your manager try to push more work onto you, make them to tell you which current task they prefer that you stop doing.

They won’t t fire you. Believe me. They’re desperate. I bet no one here can say they’ve seen someone get fired recently.

work/life balance is not given or earned it must be planned/controlled by you. take PT days as a mental health day, a sick day here and there just because. Take all of your vacation days and disconnect/no checking email, etc.

the work gets easier as you get smarter on how to work smarter not harder. Work on be efficient, organized. Do your job 1st and make others accountable for their task.

Run as soon as you can. And don’t think that changing internal roles will make a difference. I recently did that and my job was completely changed from what I was hired for on top of taking on work from others that left and were not replaced. I am miserable and so tired of the incompetent leaders at this company.

It comes and goes in cycles, but typically you will need to wait 5 years or more. It is very difficult to last this long without snapping and burning out

It will only get worse. You have to stand up for yourself. Long-term this kind of toxic work environment is very detrimental to your health. It's not sustainable. Take inventory of your options - Start interviewing elsewhere. Make a deliberate effort to exercise. If your boss is threatening you, then document every interaction, and possibly speak with an employment attorney to determine your legal options. Go back to the original job description and stated hours, and stick to that original agreement. If your hours are 8-5, then at 5 you are walking out the door, rain or shine. If this leads to your dismissal, then so be it. There is an afterlife once you leave the machine.

It gets easier once you realize you have a life.
