Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford has been very very good to me

I have no complaints. Mostly good times with coworkers building on lots of teamwork to get the job done. Some things were out of our control but that is the nature of the beast. I had several good engineer friends get promoted and do quite well without being jacks. I also had a few that got chopped from the ranks for being the youngest. Good hard working go to engineers who just got screwed. I hope the exodus of many retirement eligible engineers leave enough core skills to keep the place alive.

Ford was good a long time. Then last working years of health care increased 30%, then retired and health care up another 40% as Ford drops coverage and sends all to the marketplace mess. So I am rethinking that.

I think overall Ford has been good to me as well. I have been fortunate that I have not been on one of the toxic teams mentioned on this board. I just think I was better to Ford than they were to me.

Yes, Ford was always really good to me too and I enjoyed my job. Great positions, great assignments, glowing reviews, promotions, team work… And then I was let go during SRD just a year short of a significant pension milestone.

Make no mistake, the people that you work for and with are what makes a job feel “good” or not but those are not usually the people who decide if you get to keep your job. I did make some life long friends that I’m still close to and Ford can’t take that from me.

The old Ford is dead. The LL3+s have made that clear. So no matter how good old Ford was to you, new Ford will gladly slip the kn--e between your ribs and give it a twist.

I think everything is relative. When I started I interviewed a nursing home worker who was very happy to get a union job at Ford. A coworker started at Kroger became a plant supervisor and it was a tough job for her. She was very attractive and moved to a corporate supervisor position and feels Ford has been good to her.

My friend's family is mostly dentists and doctors. The member of the family that worked for Ford salaried was really changed by the experience in a bad way. He lost a lot of confidence. The family members wish he had chosen to be a doctor or a dentist.
