Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How do you handle the uncertainty of layoff?

Constantly wondering if I'll still have a job in the next months is more than stressful. It would be easier for me to bear if I immediately knew that I would be laid off.

If you are going to work in the auto industry here are a few simple rules;

  • Live below your means, keep your debt low
  • Save four+ months of bills in cash (CD & money markets)
  • Keep learning new skills to stay relevant
  • Ford is just a job, a tool to make you money, do not get emotionally attached
  • Learn how to actively invest your money; you will never get wealthy only working to make Mr. Ford rich
  • Make sure you make time for your family and yourself, I almost always can make time for family dinner and Sundays are for family only
  • Smile

A job makes a living but not a life.

Also, if you pretend youre cut but get to work another month that would mean you're cut but just have another month of pay. That's be a positive thing so to speak. I know it is hard to rewire the mind.

The silver lining is someone warned you before hand that it may happen. If you know a bad storm is coming, you get ready for it whether or not a tornado happens in your neighborhood. Prepare for the worst and you'll have the comfort of knowing you're ready to take things head on if they come for you.

A job is not life. Life is not a job. Relax. Don't stress about things you have no control over
